Taking a risk and shirking some of the category requirements. This is not a band per say, but an underrated solo artist who is masterful with the sounds he can create vocally and that he accompanies with layered instrumentals. Kishi Bashi is the stage name of Kaoru Ishibashi, American singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and former member of the band of Montreal.
This artists stage name is awesome because of how fun it is to say, the word play with the sounds of his actual name, and the unique and joyful music created under this moniker. This song is great for summer; it makes me imagine a montage of all the fun summer activities like bike riding, beach volleyball, tossing the frisbee in the park, having a picnic with friends & family, and late night board games by the firepit. I can't help but transition to a good mood while listening to it. Please enjoy this fun and upbeat tune.
This is Bowling For Soup with 'Almost'.
Have you ever wondered what your life would've been if *that one thing* had just turned out slightly differently? What about if that one thing had led to another, and another, and another? What if it was all set in a early 2000s punk setting, with an appropriately corny music video to boot? That's what you get with Bowling for Soup's 2005 single "Almost" which depicts a teen's imagination/fantasy which blurs the lines between what did and almost did happen.
The song's name, ironically, is close to the opposite of the Walrus prompt - both in title and in actual creativity relative to the lyrics. The band's name, however, is memorable. Apparently it was derived from an old Steve Martin comedy act where he ran a game show called "Bowling for S**t", but they changed their name for fear of offending certain family members.
The Bowling for Soup drummer is wearing a shirt that says "pants." This sums up their whole vibe and sorry to say I'm not into it. I agree with the write-up in that the name is the opposite of a category fit.
Its not the best Bowling For Soup song, but I do really like both the genre, and them in particular. They write songs about things that definitely speak to me- regret, failure, and misguided nostalgia.
