This is basically modern Motown, and I love it. Everything about this song is really well executed; the vocals are fantastic, the drum rhythm is interesting, the guitar strumming is simple but effective, and the inclusion of the upright bass is REALLY cool. More than that, it's an infectious song, and a guaranteed mood raiser. The instrumental break and subsequent guitar solo are super cool, as is the alternation of time signatures. The overall effect is something that it's impossible for me to hate.
I wasn't sure about how I was going to feel about this one at the outset - the intro is definitely interesting. The entry of the rest of the instruments, however, had me immediately hooked, and the rest of the song is excellent. It goes hard while also being uplifting. The vocals, though well-done, are understated and mesh with the rest of the song, creating a piece more focused on the whole than any one part. The instruments are all constantly doing something different, keeping the track fresh, and it constantly regrabs your attention with something or other. I'll definitely be seeking out more by this group. Great pick.
This makes a lot more sense than what I originally judged lol. I really like how it opens - the laid-back tone is nice, her voice is nice to listen to, and the backing track has a generally cool mood to it. You know I'm a sucker for horns, and the sax in this is very good. Had there been more progression in the song, this may have made podium - unfortunately, the song kind of stagnates and peters out after a few minutes, which is my biggest knock against it. A good song, I just wish it did a bit more.
I don't really like or dislike the song, but I really don't hear any funk influence in here at all. I am wondering if this is a case of getting sent the wrong song for this category?
So, a song this kind of reminds me of but that I actually love is
Nujabes - Auraurian Dance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYRDgd3Tb44
Why is Nujabes' song so incredibly better? I don't know but it is.
This is a super disappointing song because it has so much potential. At points is shines but it has too many spots where it just under achieves. I am not a fan of some of the vocals (quality and cadence). There are just too many low spots surrounding the high spots.
