The problem is the expectation that to receive credit for being a villager you must be constantly in the thread all day long...or at least in more often than not or you must be eliminated. It's an unmeetable expectation for most people.
It's much better to judge people by their posts than by their not-posts, at least as much as reasonable or possible.
That isn't the point I was making btw - I don't disagree with what you stated. My argument is that when people make excuses for not being around with the implication that it should somehow buy them time, it's silly to have to figure out whether they're being truthful or not
I agree that people shouldn't have to make excuses for not always being around - but when someone with 30 posts in 4 days is making an excuse *again* for why they can't post, it's frustrating
