Sorry to not be in the tournament, Zac, but my schedule wasn't really conducive.

OTOH, ship the win yesterday and now at an all time high 1399. 1400 level up time!

Not enough players to get a full 32 players bracket so you need to give some people a bye to get to 16 in the 2nd round.

I know that but why the strong players?

surely the strong players are the ones who don't need byes and it just increases their chances of winning hugely when they don't need it?

I'm using the wrong word when I say the strong players, I mean the strongest players, wasn't suggesting people not getting byes aren't strong at all.

I think it's standard in competitions for the highest seeds to get byes.

The better you have done pre-tourney the more perks you get in the tourney, otherwise the advantage goes to the worse players.

Same reason the 1 seed gets to play the worst seed first round

yeah i just didn't know why

I've played vs th10 and paul recently in timed and there just isn't any chance of me beating them, I didn't get why they get less variance

The idea is that those people have earned the right to get a favourable route by performing better than the others. It's the same idea that is behind behind seeding, putting #1 and #2 on opposite sides of the bracket, giving #1 #4 in the semis and #8 in the quarters in standard seeding etc.

Another way to justify this procedure is that you want to maximise odds of exciting matchups in the later rounds of a tourney. The strong guys play the weakest first and you maximise the odds that the best people play each other in the later rounds. This doesn't really apply to triplechain though, more to any sport that has people watching it.

i guess it makes more sense when you have a regular season and then playoffs, because there's more of a sense of having earned the advantage.

right but we're talking about triplechain

the edges in triplechain are defined, I know I beat TH10 last tourney I would equate that to Jaime Gold winning the main event twice in a row, such was the shock. The variance in TC is minimal, TH10 will beat me everytime now so will paul, etc. It's lower variance than any sport.

Daily Challenge/Timed would be our regular season.

This isn't true.. Any of the top TC seeds will lose much more often in their first match than Roger Federer will lose in the round of 16 of a tennis tournament.

I think derwi explained the logic of the seeding pretty well. I'm open to other tournament formats though. This one's pretty good for coming up with a quick resolution, but it might be nice to give the lower seeded players a shot at playing more games. Double elimination, swiss-system, or two-stage would all be fun, but the big obstacle is arranging matches - they would all involve much more of that.

I'm just happy that I've got the chance to get to 2nd round before playing against TH10

And I remember that it was the last tournament when I first watched derwi playing triplechain and got hooked on this game. I think I signed up just one day later

I remember that it was last tourney when I made a mistake against zac when I was up 3-1 and proceeded to tilt the next two games away to lose.

looking at the bracket I realised that since I'm seeded 19th I am the 19th best triplechain player in the world

I'm going to ignore the fact that there are only a couple hundred people play triplechain and there are people not in the tourney and make myself feel better by saying to myself that I am 19th in the world at something

When did we get a couple hundred players?

This is just not true. For example you've beaten me in 2 out of the last 3 Daily Challenges.

I looked at the draw and thought "This is a pretty bad draw, I'm gonna have to beat all these really good players to win", then realised that there's not many easier draws. It's a tough field.

Also; anyone else predict that they would lose to a lower seed?

I disagree, if we played 100 games, I'd be lucky to win 10

You'd have to suck pretty bad to lose 90%+ of the time

right, I don't believe I'm especially bad at this game, it's just TH10 and Paul are just that good.
