Nobody did! Unexpected.
The 4s came one in rack 1 and one in rack 4 so it was most likely to require 5 of them to 5 zone. They would pretty much need to be in the major inner dynasty spot to 5 zone, and I think 5s filled that quickly with no 4 in racks 2 or 3. In an advanced opening the 4s probably are not ending upper inner is a 4/2/2 opening.

I'll remember yesterdays' (the 30th's) DC for another reason. I had an absolute brain fart that cost a win.

Before I placed the 6 in rack six…. I think I knew that bigger chains were better than smaller chains… lol and I think I knew there was about a 15/16% chance I would not see a 6 in racks 7/8, yet there I be……..putting the 6 in the wrong spot.

Funny thing is that right after, when there was no 6 in rack seven, I knew I was going to get taught a lesson for being mentally lazy and there would be no 6 in rack eight to bail me out.

What a dough head…. Getting senile, I think…

But, what a crazy month!!! There are several people with a huge amount of wins and DC points. And, I (and I am sure others as well) had several high win equity misses in rack 9 for wins. Arjun and I were in similar spots many times and I think he could have had 10 wins this month with just a few normal rack 9s.

When nails stats come out there are going to be some huge numbers in the top 5 or 6 people for wins and points.

PS. Nothing above related to today's DC..

Monthly Race
  • The first monthly DC race of 2023 came down to a back-and-forth battle between velourfog, arjun13, and SmalltownBoy. In the end, velourfog took over the lead and locked up the win with DC wins on the last two days of the month. velourfog tied for the most DC wins (6), had the most top-five (15) and top-10 scores (22), and his DC points total was the highest since December 2021. It was velourfog’s seventh monthly DC win, placing him seventh on the all-time list.
  • arjun13 and SmalltownBoy finished in second and third place, respectively, separated by just three points. arjun tied velourfog with six wins, including the 33rd hat trick in the history of the DC (three straight wins from January 22-24), and had the second-most top-10 scores (21). SmalltownBoy had five wins and 19 top-10 scores, and matched arjun’s 14 top-five scores. Both players are on an eight-month streak of top-10 finishes.
  • Dynasty and SubArcticK rounded out the top five, just two points apart. Dynasty had the fewest top-10 scores among the top five, but benefited from four wins and five second-place scores. SubArc posted five wins and 20 top-10 scores, third-most during the month, en route to his 12th consecutive top-10 finish.
  • Among the rest of the top 10, Kokirixx finished in sixth place despite just 12 top-10 scores, five of which were wins; wafflesobv (eighth place) posted his sixth consecutive top-10 finish; and Popcorn (ninth place) returned to the top 10 for the first time since April 2022. dogfloss, Bandwagon, and Dos were just outside the top 10.

Milestones
  • On January 8, velourfog played his 4,500th DC, the second player (after Dynasty) to reach this milestone.
  • velourfog also moved into eighth place on the all-time yearly DC race points list during the month.
  • On January 30, wafflesobv got his 250th DC win, becoming the 10th player to do so.
  • NP surpassed 10,000 DC points in January, the 21st player to reach this milestone.

Stats of the Month
  • 71: The number of DC wins in January, which is the fifth-most all-time.
  • 14: The January 8 DC featured a 14-way tie for the win, the third time that’s happened in the history of the DC. The all-time record is a 19-way tie, which has occurred twice, most recently in May 2021.
  • 18: The number of top-10 scores Bandwagon had in January, none of which were wins. That’s the most monthly top-10 scores without a win since nails did it in April 2022. Dynasty holds the all-time record with 21.

Monthly Race
  • arjun13 ran away with the February DC race, finishing 86 points ahead of SmalltownBoy in second place -- more than the gap between second and 12th place. arjun led the table in wins (6), top-five scores (15), and top-10 scores (21), the latter two by wide margins. It was arjun’s 28th monthly win, the most in DC history, and his ninth consecutive month in the top 10.
  • SmalltownBoy and wafflesobv finished in second and third place, respectively. StB was second in wins (5) and top-five scores (10), and tied for fourth in top-10 scores (14). waffles had just 12 top-10 scores, but they included three wins and six other top-four finishes. Both players are on extended streaks in the monthly top 10 -- nine straight months for StB, seven in a row for waffles.
  • The rest of the top 10 was separated by just 16 points. consul (fifth place) and SubArcticK (10th place) tied for second in top-10 scores with 15; Dynasty (sixth place) had just one win but four second-place scores; and shamsnemesis (ninth place) finished in the top 10 for the first time since February 2022 (and his previous top-10 finish was in February 2019 -- seems to be his month). NP, Hg80, and nails were just outside the top 10.

Milestones
  • On February 21, arjun13 got his 300th DC win, the sixth player to reach this milestone.
  • arjun13 also surpassed 20,000 DC points in February, becoming the sixth player to reach that total.
  • consul surpassed 15,000 DC points during the month, becoming the 15th player to do so.
  • On February 12, Cherrycin played in her 2,000th DC, the 27th player to reach this milestone.
  • Kokirixx moved into eighth place on the all-time wins list, passing Paul101.

Stats of the Month
  • 34: Derwi posted the 34th hat trick in DC history, winning three consecutive DCs from January 30 to February 1.

Interesting DC on the 15th.

If there had been only one 2 in rack nine, then arjun and I would have tied with quite different boards.

Not often you see 3s and 4s (each in five zones) tied in value. More common to see something like 4s and 5s tied at 640 or 1000 points each. .... I guess 6s and 4s at 576 is another one. 5s and 3s at 750 in there too but must be pretty rare..

We really don't have a ton of scores that intersect two different chains.

Hop on my ride Gabe. We can take turns banging the switch....lol

I have narrowed down my problems to (1) making careless/rushed errors, (2) making bad strategic decisions, (3) playing 1s awful, (4) rack 9 2s hate me, (5) I suck, and (6) not caring enough to do anything about 1,2,3 and 5 lol

Curious about stats like these because I suck at them.

Is 2.6% not the answer for any random 31 day period? Wouldn't no wins in a 30 or 31 day period with a defined start and end (like a calendar month) be rarer, thus lower than 2.6%?

Was just thinking that if I was a baseball player playing every day it would be rarer for me to go without a Home Run in a calendar month than it would be in any random 30 or 31 day stretch in the season. How much rarer I don't know, and would not know how to calculate.

Any of you math folks know how to get both stats (a dry calendar month vrs a dry random 31 day stretch)?
Triplechain Quote
03-28-2023 , 10:32 AM
It will depend on the length of the period.
The probability to not win a DC in March 2023 ==> 2.6%
The probability to not win a DC for 31 days straight if you play 10 million years? ==> That will be VERY close to 100%.

What is the probability to not win a DC for 31 consecutive days in a calendar year of 365 days ==> No clue.

Monthly Race
  • nails won the March DC race after leading the field for the bulk of the month. Despite finishing sixth in top-10 scores (16), nails led the table in wins (5) and top-five scores (13). It was nails’ second monthly win overall and his first top-10 finish in seven months.
  • Derwi and arjun13 finished in second and third place, respectively, separated by just six points. Derwi overtook arjun on the last day of the month thanks to a fourth-place score. Derwi had by far the most top-10 scores (24) in March, though he had only two wins and 11 top-five scores. arjun tied for second in wins (4) and top-10 scores (18) while extending his top-10 streak to 10 consecutive months.
  • dogfloss and Dynasty rounded out the top five, separated by just three points. dogfloss had just 14 top-10 scores, but eight of them were in the top three, while Dynasty had 17 top-10 scores, with seven of them in the top three.
  • Among the rest of the top 10, Hg80 (sixth place) finished in the top 10 for the first time since September 2022; SubArcticK (eighth place) extended his top-10 streak to 14 consecutive months, the longest active streak; and anton-09 (10th place) had just 10 top-10 scores, but eight of them were in the top four. anton-09 tied with Kokirixx for 10th, but won the tiebreaker (three DC wins to zero). Kokirixx and Dos were just outside the top 10.

Milestones
  • On March 26, anton-09 played his 4,500th DC, the third player to reach this milestone (following Dynasty and velourfog).
  • On March 5, Bandwagon played his 2,000th DC (and got the win!), becoming the 28th player to do so.
  • On March 31, dogfloss became the third player to win 350 DCs, following Dynasty and Derwi.
  • SubArcticK moved into third place on the all-time yearly race points list, passing Paul101.

Registration is now open for the 2023 World Cup of TripleChain, which will net the winner a baby blue trophy!

The World Cup will have a league-play format based on the Daily Challenge, which was instituted for the first time in 2021. Participating in the World Cup involves nothing more than playing the DC each day.

Here’s how it works:
  • Each World Cup participant will play head-to-head against a different World Cup participant in the DC each day, until everyone has played every other participant once. I will put together a randomized schedule prior to the start of league play.
  • You get 2 points for a win (i.e., outscoring your opponent in the DC), 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss or DNP (did not play).
  • Once the head-to-head play is complete, the top 8 in the league standings will be put into a seeded playoff bracket to decide the winner. Tiebreakers for seeding and/or playoff spots will be (1) head-to-head results, (2) total points across head-to-head games, and (3) total points across all league games.
  • Each head-to-head playoff match-up will be a three-game series, still using the DC and the same 2/1/0 scoring. If any matches are tied after three DCs, the next day’s DC (and beyond if needed) will be used to break the tie.

Because this is a DC-based tournament, there is no traditional way to sign up on the TripleChain site. The only way to register is to post in this thread or in the TC chatroll that you want to register for the World Cup. The deadline for signing up is 11:59 pm EDT on May 6 (3:59 am GMT on May 7). I will build the schedule of games on May 7, and tourney play will begin with the May 8 DC.

Depending on the number of entries, league play should last through most of May, and the playoffs will likely run in late May and early June. I will create a Google spreadsheet to track the results; a link to the sheet will be posted in the Tourney News section, as will semi-regular updates throughout the competition.

Monthly Race
  • SmalltownBoy ran away with the April DC race. StB tied for the lead in wins (5) and top-10 scores (20), but the key stat was leading the table in top-5 scores by a significant margin (15, with the next-most being 11). It was StB’s fifth monthly win and his first since winning three consecutive monthly DC races last fall.
  • arjun13 and Derwi finished in second and third place, respectively, separated by just two points and reversing their positions from last month. arjun tied with StB for the most wins and top-10 scores, while Derwi tied for third in wins (4) and was second in top-5 scores (11). arjun extended his streak of top-10 finishes to 11 consecutive months.
  • dogfloss and Dynasty rounded out the top five for the second consecutive month. Last month, they were separated by just three points; this month it was two. dogfloss had the edge in wins (4 to 3) and top-10 scores (16 to 15), while Dynasty won out in top-5 scores (10 to 9).
  • Among the rest of the top 10, NP (seventh place) had 14 top-10 scores but nine in the top 3; SubArcticK (ninth place) needed a third-place score on the last day of the month to extend his top-10 streak to 15 consecutive months; and Dos (10th place) had just 13 top-10 scores, but four of them were wins. wafflesobv and Hg80 were just outside the top 10.

Milestones
  • On April 6, dogfloss played her 4,500th DC, the fourth player to reach this milestone.
  • On April 2, Kokirixx played his 4,000th DC, becoming the fifth player to do so.
  • On April 30, Derwi became the sixth player to reach 4,000 DCs played.
  • On April 4, nails played his 2,500th DC, the 18th player to do so.
  • Dynasty became the first player to surpass 30,000 DC points.
  • Derwi became the fifth player to reach 1,000 yearly race points.
  • wafflesobv moved into ninth place on the all-time DC points list, passing Alex.
  • Popcorn moved into 12th place on the all-time wins list, passing Alex.

Stat of the Month
  • 17: The number of top-10 scores by shamsnemesis in April, tied for third-most with SubArcticK. However, shamsnemesis had no wins or second-place scores; it’s the most top-10 scores in a month without a top-2 score since consul had 18 in January 2018.

Monthly Race
  • Derwi dominated the May DC race, despite the small overall margin of victory. Derwi built an insurmountable lead thanks to 8 DC wins (the most since dogfloss in September 2021), including 5 in the first half of the month. Among his 16 top-10 scores, just 2 were outside the top 5. It was Derwi’s seventh monthly win, which ties him with velourfog for the seventh-most all-time.
  • arjun13 finished in second place, just nine points behind Derwi. arjun had by far the most top-10 scores with 24; in particular, he had two wins and four other top-six scores in the final week of the month to surge up the standings and nearly catch Derwi. arjun extended his streak of top-10 finishes to 12 consecutive months.
  • consul, NP, and SubArcticK rounded out the top five, separated by just 13 points. consul earned his first top-three finish since November 2017, finishing second in wins (5) during the month. NP was second in top-10 scores (19), while SubArcticK was third in top-10 scores (18). SubArc extended his string of top-10 finishes to 16 straight months, the longest active streak.
  • Among the rest of the top 10, Dos finished sixth despite just 14 top-10 finishes, nails (ninth place) was fourth in top-10 scores (17), and shamsnemesis posted a sixth-place score on the final day of the month to tie dogfloss for 10th place and won the tiebreaker (3-2 in DC wins). In addition to dogfloss, quaspl and Popcorn finished just outside the top 10.

Milestones
  • On May 18, wafflesobv played his 3,500th DC, the 10th player to reach this milestone.

Stat of Last Month
  • 35: I neglected to mention in last month’s write-up that dogfloss posted the 35th hat trick in DC history by winning three consecutive DCs from April 4-6.

Stat of the Month

From Post 2023-21 in the Tourney News section of the Triplechain site.

2023 - Summer Match Play Championship

It is time for the 2023 Summer Match-Play Championship. Past winners include Paul101 in 2018, SubArcticK in 2019, arjun13 in 2020 and 2021, and Gaby (SmalltownBoy) in 2022. A yellow trophy is up for grabs for the 2023 winner.

Format

-It is a head-to-head (H2H) match play tournament with the winner of each match advancing to the next round. The loser is out.
-Each H2H match will be 50 games played over a period of 20 days (maximum).
-Seeding will be based on the Triplechain tournament ratings at the end of day on June 12th. Seeding will be done in exactly the same way that the TC site is programmed to seed the first and subsequent rounds of any multi-player tourney. (NOTE - There could be some 1st round byes.)
-If fewer than 8 players register the tourney will not run.

Please DO NOT register if you can't commit to playing 50 games in 20 days.(Obviously, if you win your 1st round you will be playing another 50 games in the next 20 days against a different player, and so on).

If you register and don't play (that is, either don’t start or don’t finish your games) , I won't take your entry for this tourney in 2024.*

Because I will be manually creating the 50 game H2H matches, you can't register for the tournament in the normal fashion. Instead you MUST post in chatroll on the Triplechain site or in this Triplechain thread that you are registering for the tournament. Registration will close at 10:00PM ET on Monday June 12th. NO LATE ENTRIES.

On June 13th or 14th you can expect to see the first round start. I will create the H2H matches and then announce them on chatroll so that people can join their match and begin.

* if you registered in 2022 and did not complete your games by the deadline(s), I will not be taking your entry this year (2023).
