The 2022 Summer Match Play Tourney is over and Gaby beat Derwi 27-26 in the final match to take the tourney and the Yellow Trophy. Congrats Gaby !!. I will request a trophy from Zac. The next "trophy" tourney will occur in October when waffles runs the popular "Guillotine" tourney (Red Trophy). Stay tuned for an announcement late this month on that.

The TripleChain annual guillotine trophy returns beginning October 1st. We will follow a similar format to years past.

Since we will be utilizing the DC, there is no preregistration required. If you play the DC on 10/1 you will automatically be entered into the tourny. If for any reason you would prefer not to participate let me know.

Full rules/details to be cross-posted here and to the Tourny News tab in the coming days (most likely Thursday). Let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise good luck all!

Monthly Race
  • SmalltownBoy dominated the September DC race from start to finish, winning his second monthly race in the last three months. StB led the table with 22 top-10 scores (five more than the next-closest player) and 15 top-five scores. The win expanded StB’s lead in both the yearly race and total DC points.
  • SubArcticK took second place in September, holding off a late charge from Derwi and dogfloss. SubArc tied for third in top-10 scores (16) and was second to SmalltownBoy in top-five scores (12).
  • Derwi, dogfloss, and arjun13 rounded out the rest of the top five. Derwi tied for the most wins in September (4), with three of them coming in the final week of the month; dogfloss had three wins and 10 top-five scores; and arjun had 17 top-10 scores, second only to StB.
  • Among the rest of the top 10, Dynasty (seventh place) won four DCs in the span of a week to tie for the most in September; Kokirixx (eighth place) finished in the top 10 for the first time since July 2021; and wafflesobv (10th place) had just 10 top-10 scores, but seven of them were in the top three. Nimbusfan, NP, and mrgibson were just outside the top 10.

Milestones
  • On September 25, Derwi earned his 350th DC win, the second player (along with Dynasty) to reach that milestone.

Mr. $tat$ king: do you know what is the average DC win% of the players?

You can calculate by (total amount of wins)*100/(total amount of players) over some large period of time.

I would expect something like 6-7%

The table is below.

A few comments and observations.

-There were a total of 8571 DC games played in 2018, resulting in an average of 23.48 players per day.

-Not surprisingly, the mode for placing is 1st. 6.97% of all games played were wins. After that there is about a 2% drop to 2nd place, and then a steady but slight drop off in each spot right to 9th place (with 6th and 7th showing an anomaly). Also 4th and 5th are almost identical. Both are probably due to sample size.

-With placing percentages done, it was simple to project what a perfectly average DC players' 2018 would look like. He/she starts with 25 wins, then drops off with 2nd to 10th having a pretty tight range (a high of 18 and a low of 15 in each placing). They have 199 placings at 11th or worse.

Of course there is no such thing as "perfect" distribution in real life, and things will obviously change if we are looking at more or less than 23.5 players per DC, but I thought some people might find this interesting.

In the orange player slot I can put in actual results for anybody who played in 2018. I did my own and it took about 5 minutes.

Looking at your placings of 1st to 4th or even 1st to 5th (and how far each differs from average) might give you some indication of running hot for wins or running bad for wins in 2018. It does not matter how close to average you are, a "relative" comparison will show placings that jump out as high or low outliers.

Of course if you played every DC in "win or bust" mode the results may not be as meaningful. Your playing style might results in a relatively lower percentage of placings from (4th to 10th), for example.. Or, it may not...who knows.

Anyway, if you want your 2018 placings put in the table and PMd to you just PM me. Or I can drop them right ITT if you want. Up to you if you want to share.

Gabe. I posted this back in 2019 from 2018 stats I stole from Nails...

It looks like 6.97% was the ave win % that year. 597 wins in 8571 player games. Player pool is larger now, so ave wins is probably down. Plus a larger sample size might change things slightly.

And yeah, stats guru nails probably has a large pool of games to draw upon.

Hello all,

A bit of a shameless plug. Hope you do not mind.

You may remember me from clubpoker, i am organising a yearly friendly competition there and I was the cause of some influx of players a few times last year (some of you suspected a school assigment).
I am here to promote a game i built whose idea was definitely inspired by triplechain : Flipette.

Flipette is a not easy but fun logic-based number puzzle where player must draw the best possible self-avoiding walk in a square grid. I can see some traction and i am starting to promote it to communities i believe could enjoy it.

The goal is to find the highest possible path in a grid with the highest score possible. Each square you cross affects your score. The twist is that 'F' boxes reverse the order of your score digits: 109 becomes 901.

Your feedback are very welcome to improve the game. Especially since I am not native english, you may want to challenge how rules are explained on the website and help me better phrase it.

To discover and play you can go to https://flipette.com/

A past fun puzzle that had a lot of success is #141 : https://flipette.com/?id=141

Thank you All ! And long live the TripleChain community !

Awesome game ! I’m sure a lot of the community soon will integrate the daily grid to their daily routine, on top of the TC Daily challenge :-)

PS: there is some kind of community challenge going on with Reddit in the leaderboard, time to make 2+2 / TC shine

I lost yesterday's DC in rack 8.

I had to chose: optimal 4s and be screwed by a 1 in rack 9 or suboptimal 4s and hope for 1-less rack 9. The only thing that interests is optimizing win equity. What would you have done?

We had the same score but I didn't have that option in rack 8. We had the same board going into rack nine though.

Having looked at your game I would play rack eight exactly like you did.

The extra paired 2s on the diagonal and the volume of 1s (you are going to need a zone with three 1s to keep the middle free of 1s) are going to restrict most players from having a three-zone third chain, and if they do have a three- zone 3rd chain then they probably need a rack nine 2 and/or no 1. Dynasty was the exception, unfortunately for you and I. He had the 3 zone 3rd chain and the extra set of paired 2s, and he dodged the 1.

As I was playing this and got to rack eight I felt my competition for the win was going to come from players who got a 6 with no 1 in rack 9, and beat my four zone of 6s with their five zone of 6s by connecting the center zone. I thought that a 1 in rack 9 would give me a likely win - I doubted a 61XXX rack 9 could even catch up with the lost bonus points, and if there is 6XXXX rack 9 with no 1 I lose anyway.

So I would have sacrificed the 3rd zone of 4s as you did and pin my hopes on the 1 for the win.

PS. A 12XXX rack 9 is not ideal for either of us, considering where our orphaned 5 was.. Still might have snagged a win though.

There are a couple of interesting parts of that particular DC. I may post a question/thought about rack 2 and 3 later.

Been a bit busy the last week or two, but finally got around to crunching the numbers. Here's the data (7/1/2010 to 9/30/2022):

Total DCs played (number of DCs x number of players) = 116,545

Total wins (including shared wins) = 7,153

Winning percentage (Total Wins / Total DCs played) = 6.1%

By coincidence, 6.1% is the winning percentage for the first nine months of this year. Last year, the average winning percentage was 7.5%. More players and fewer shared wins this year.

Main reason for position 2 imo is so that if you get a 4/2/2 split advanced the more valuable 6s are on the on the side that is not going to be blocked by the 4s.
Triplechain Quote
10-20-2022 , 02:21 PM
My main issue with position 2 is that if rack 3 just contains a 5, you need to put it center-bottom and you cannot improve your 4-chain in rack 4.

With the 5 in position 1, if rack 3 just has a 5, you can place it center-left and have still plenty of options for rack 4

But I've got no clue what the actual best play is

For sure..

If Zac had time ( and I doubt he does) it would be nice if that Challenge wins list on the left side was able to toggle to a different leaderboard each day. Maybe from the current "Career DC Challenge Wins" one day, to "Calendar Year DC Wins" the next day, and then "Career DC win%," the next day, and then maybe back to Career Challenge Wins...

Could be a couple of other boards of interest in their too.
