Yeah, agree with bandwagon. Fixed points makes it a lot simpler to ensure that someone winning both tourneys isn't drawing dead.

Sub, have you thought about making the 3rd tourney a free for all? It would be pretty cool to have 1 set of points from the DC, 1 from the monthly challenge, and the 3rd from a free for all.

DC - 25/18/15 etc for the top 10 finishers in the month (not each day)
Free for all - 25/18/15/ etc for the top 10 finishers (by wins, so no need to keep stats)
Tourney - pretty easy now to manipulate the points to make it fair

This is actually really cool, it's the current three most popular formats on TC that we all play, we combining them all into one big event seems like a good idea and the FFA should chuck in some variance to make it more exiting.

I like this. Quite a bit actually

Part 1. The 30 DCs for November. All as discussed.

Part 2. The 30 Game FFA Winter Classic Bonus Point Tourney.

There are a couple of FFA problems, but I can easily work around them.

1. We want the number of games to be the same as the DC, so that would be 30 games for November. I can't set an FFA for 30 games, but I can set it for 50. I will just do a 50 game set up and advise people that only the first 30 games will count.

2. 30 days is the default end date for an FFA , and I can't change it. But I will announce it on Oct 28 with 3 days for registration, It can Start on Nov 1 and boom... it will end right when I need the stats. So, people can take all 30 days if they want. This will add some suspense too, as the results won’t be known until the end (whether we want them sooner or not..lol)

I can do the stats the same way nails does and that I do for the Battle Royale and convert top 10 in points to 25/18/15 etc.. Arjun, you suggested just wins but points are fine. I can do the stats.

Or, do we want just wins for variance?????

Part 3. The November Monthly Championship (with bonus points)

I will run this in early November.

Arjun, can you suggest a fair way to distribute the tourney points. I am thinking we should award 8 spots based on the structure of the tourney.

1st 25
2nd 18
2 people at T3rd get 14 points each?? (15 + 12/2 = 14) 14 seems high..maybe 12, or is 14 Ok
4 people T5th get 7 points each??? (10+8+6+4 /4 =7)??

Thoughts on points here...Arjun/Bandwagon….others..???

Once that is sorted I think we are locked in on a format. How about we call this puppy the Winter Classic (Triple Crown) Tourney.

NOTE: I was not a fan of 25/18/15 etc system for one month of stats because I felt/feel it favours the higher rated players by the built-in over- rewarding at the top. But, now that we have 60 games in total, I actually think that totaling and combining the actual DC points (for example 222 + 165 = 387) would actually favour the higher rated players even more. More games = less variance = more typical results for everyone. So, I am good with the 25/18/15 etc for both the 30 DCs and 30FFA’s as it seems not to favour higher rated players as much as totaling 60 games worth of points would, even though 25/18/15 is top loaded.

That said, I do wish there was something a little less top heavy than 25/18/15 etc, but if you guys think it is good then I am good.


Thanks for all the feedback/suggestions/revisions…etc. Let's sort the tourney points and close the book on this one.

I think I'll answer my own question with an obvious yes. Some variance (non-luck) chaos

On ties I will divide the available points for those grouped.

(example)
1st - one player at 7 wins (25 points)
2nd to 5th - four players at 6 wins (13.75 points each) (18+15+12+10/ 4 =55)
6th to 8th - three players at 5 wins (6 points each)
9th - one player at 4 wins (2 points)
10th - one player at 3 wins (1 point)

Am fine with the same 25/18/15/12/10/8/6/4/2/1 scoring (instead of pure points) for the DC portion in part 1, as the wins points in the FFA should shake things up..

Just make it 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for more variance and for a tighter leaderboard.

You definitely want just wins for the FFA, otherwise it just becomes another DC month.

I think I prefer'd your other points system that also gave points for participating in the event. If the aim is to promote interest in the event I think you'll get more people signing up if they also get rewarded for joining/playing their games.

As for the points, I guess it depends if you want all the events to be equally important in contributing to the final score for this major. If you do, then I think your scoring system is mostly fine (with minor adjustments for participation), however if you feel like the other events are more substantial then you could make this award less/less top heavy.

Perhaps a
1st 15
2nd 12
3rd 8
4th 5

And 3 points for participating/playing your first round matches.

Whatever you go with I won't be to unhappy with the result.

As a side note, is there a reason you are planning to even out the results in the case of draws, aka 3 people getting 4th place end up averaging 4th/5th/6th place points rather than just all getting the 12 points?

The reason is that the 25/18/15 etc system awards 101 points in total for the DC part. I had also framed out the tourney part to distribute 101 points.

In the table below you can see there are two primary methods for scoring. I used method A because it distributes 101 points. Also, I think method A is fairer when you anticipate lots of ties, and there always is in FFA wins.

Thanks AK =D it's been a little addicting and I'm beyond thrilled to win a DC, didn't think I had it in me but funnily enough for this one - I had a few drinks and accidentally put a 4 early somewhere I never do - because of this I had the option to string a bunch of 5s and likely had a pretty contrarian board due to the early setup mistake.

Monthly Race

-- arjun13 was a force of nature in August, kind of like the weather. He started the month extremely hot, winning four of the first seven DCs, and remained on fire through the 22nd, when he won his 10th DC of the month -- breaking the record of 9 set by SubArcticK in September 2018 and matched by Dynasty in November 2019. At that point, he was a hurricane on pace to threaten Paul101's all-time monthly points total of 411. However, arjun cooled off as we approached September, posting five top-10 finishes but no wins in the last nine days of the month. Nonetheless, he won the DC race by a comfortable margin, and his 342 points were the sixth-most all-time. The monthly win was his 16th overall, as well as his 23rd straight month in the top 10, which is now the second-longest streak ever.

-- The other two highest-rated DC players, SubArcticK and Bandwagon, had a close battle for second place in August. Bandwagon led for most of the month, but SubArc caught up late in the month, finishing strong with a second and first on the last two days to capture second place overall.

-- Fourth through seventh place were separated by just 13 points. Priptonite had his highest finish ever, placing fourth, while nails finished seventh despite posting the most top-10 finishes (21) during the month.

-- velourfog held on to the last spot in the top 10 despite a late charge from lilrascal and Nimbusfan, who finished just outside the top 10.

-- wafflesobv played his 2,500th game in August, the 12th player to reach that milestone.

yea sorry I logged in and completed one and somehow it bugged out right when I finished and gave me a new board and no leaderboard so it looked like it didn't register and I ran it back. I obviously scored better the 2nd time so sorry about how it happened, I feel better that it didn't seem to make the difference vs my first attempt

This happens from time to time. I think last time it happened to waffles or dogfloss. IIRC, one of them played but could not see his/her score (and could not play again). They asked in chatroll if we could see their score and one of us who already played confirmed their score was in fact visible to the rest of us. In your case it looked like you could not even see the leaderboard, and had no reason to think your score registered, as you were able to play again.

Zac told me before that it is hard to fix these rare, isolated glitches. I will let him know to purge your 2nd played game (the higher score). I don't want to say the score value, as maybe a couple of people have not played the DC yet.

Anyway, by purging one of them it wont mess up the data that nails imports from time to time.

Oh yea if he wants to go through the trouble to do it purging the #1 score is absolutely the ethical solution. I've had weird glitches and not been able to finish some games in the past like you said - in this case I experienced a glitch but then just figured I'd get a game registered, sorry about that because I did get an unfair advantage and will just reload a few times to make sure in the future which I should have done.

Registration is open for three days for the September Championship. Congrats to Arjun on winning the August championship!!! The September Championship will be the 60th monthly championship. Does not seem like they have been going for 5 years..

You can check out the August tourney here http://triplechain.net/tournaments/5413.

It's a Best of 13 knockout tournament that will run for 4 rounds (maybe 5 if enough people sign up). You have 3 days per round to complete your 13 games.

Go to "Tourneys" tab and click "join" on any of the ones you want to try. It is fun to see how you do H2H with someone on the same board. We are at 14 players now for the Sept tourney... would be nice to hit 16...

I have an idea for the Holiday FFA that should make it fun, and also get more players of all levels involved.
I am proposing it be the 50 Game Holiday FFA Team Event. The only annual team event of all our tournies!!

Here is how it would work. I open the registration up for the 50 Game Holiday FFA on or about Dec 7 and give a week to register. I explain the format in the tourney news. Once the tourney has started around Dec 15 players will be assigned to one of 4 teams. The players will be appointed to a team based on their DC rating or tourney rating. I will appoint players to a team as if were a snake draft, except that your rating determines which team you are on.

Example (this one has 18 players, but any number of players works)

1. The player(s) with the most wins gets a dark blue trophy (same as before)
2. Also, ALL players on the team with the highest wins per-player get a dark blue trophy. By using highest wins per-player we don’t have to worry about one team having 5 players and another have 4 (for example).

So, for example, if the “Charmers” had 6,5,5,4,2 for wins, that would come out to (22 wins/5 players) = 4.4 wins per player.

Hopefully, this format will get more participants because players of all levels have a chance for a trophy in this team event. Every win by every player would matter.

Today, my DC messed up on 2nd round and I couldn't see last play each round. FYI, it didn't go well since I never knew what the last one was in the rounds.

That sucks.. the game is hard enough when we can see what we put in

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I'll let Zac know. In the past I think Zac noted that this particular type of error happens so randomly and infrequently that it was/is really hard for him to pinpoint a cause. I will pass it on though.

Hey everyone! The next major tourney of the year will be starting October 1st, the TripleChain Open Guillotine! Here’s how it works:

Prizes: The winner of the tourney will receive a red trophy next to their name.

Qualifying: Participating in the tourney is easy! If you’re a regular participant in the Daily Challenge you’re all set! In order to participate in the tourney all you need to do is play at least 1 Daily Challenge between October 1st and October 4th. This will qualify you to be part of the Main Event. If for any reason you do not want to participate in the tourney just let me know.

Main Event: Elimination games will begin October 5th and run through approximately the end of the month depending on participation. A list of all eligible entries will be posted here (Help -> Tourney News) sometime that morning (I live on the east coast of the US so approximately 9:00am EST). In guillotine format the rules are simple, do not be the lowest score. The lowest score of all remaining entrants each day will be eliminated. Last person standing wins.

Important note: Official scores will be taken from the “Winners” of the TripleChain site the following day. If you do not fully complete the Daily Challenge on any given day you will score a 0. Those zeros WILL be factored into eliminations. If I fail to participate in the DC on October 5th and SubArcticK has the worst game of his life and scores a 14, SubArcticK will survive and I will be eliminated.

Glitches: TripleChain at times has glitches which affect the Daily Challenge. If you end up with more than 1 score in the Daily Challenge the lowest of your scores will be considered official. If any unexpected glitches are to occur please let me know ASAP and we will figure out the fairest way possible to handle the situation.

Last and most importantly have fun! Many of us have been playing TripleChain for years. Shout out to Zac for creating this awesome game for us all to enjoy! Even if you’re a TripleChain novice you’re welcome to join and try out the game. New players are welcome to join! The more participants the more fun! Sounds cool, waffles.

The only small issue I see with this is there being a lot of days where someone is eliminated because they don't play and the start is a bit boring. Looking at this month's DCs, there are quite a few people with 17-21 games played. How about eliminating all no shows and the lowest played score?
