Actually, I am going to keep it as seeded. People signed up knowing that so I'd feel more comfortable leaving it that way. Plus, why play 50 games (to minimize variance) only to throw a ton of variance in the draw.

We have 15 in so far

Derwi
Kokirixx
nails
Jamcat
SubArcticK
Bandwagon
arjun13
velourfog
dogfloss
shamsnemesis
Hg80
cherrycin
waffles
Consul
Paul101

NOTE: I am going to try and put in a few extra days to play round 1 so that the WSOP folks (nails, waffles and Dynasty (if he signs up)), will feel less rushed. Will get back on 14 day rounds in round 2.

This is staying seeded and the majors are staying seeded. I might make the monthly championship random as we keep getting the same byes and match-ups and there is no trophy or anything in play.

-- dogfloss crushed the DC in June, leading from wire to wire and tying the second-highest monthly points total on record. In addition, dogfloss tied the record for the number of wins in a month, with 8 (twice the closest competitor), which also equaled the number of days dog failed to make the daily top 10 in June.

-- SubArcticK finished comfortably in second place thanks to 4 wins and 6 other top-three finishes, extending his monthly top-10 streak to 9 consecutive months.

-- The rest of the top 10 was separated by 53 points, less than the gap between SubArc and third-place velourfog. arjun13 was the only other player in the top 10 to reach 3 wins, and Guessinator made the top 10 without a single win. anton-09 and radisto finished in the top 10 for the first time in 2018, while consul and Hg80 narrowly missed the top 10.

-- At the halfway point, SubArc and arjun are running away with the year-to-date race, with velourfog a distant third. It's a bit closer for year-to-date wins, with dogfloss and Bandwagon as contenders along with the top 3.

Re: Triplechain

****ing heartbreak. I was 4 games up after 42 games out of 50, I'd been behind for so much as a single game out of the 42 and only tied once. Now Derwi is 2 games ahead with 2 to play. I need to win both to sneak it on the tiebreak.

The matches are set for the 2nd Round of the 2018 Summer Match Play Championship.

(1) Paul101 vrs (10) Consul
(2) arjun13 vrs (8) wafflesobv
(3) SubArcticK vrs (6) Bandwagon
(4) Derwi vrs (5) velourfog

You have 3 days to "join" the tournament. You have until 11:19PM ET on July 27 to complete your games. Unplayed games will be counted as losses. If this round ends early we will begin round 3 early.

Note: In the rules I said that reseeding will be done after each round based on the tourney ratings. I have no idea why I worded it that way as I am not aware of any tourney where your seeding place could change after the tourney started. So, just to clarify, your seeding number/place will stay the same throughout the tourney. It changes nothing for Round 2 but I only mention this because I notice that Derwi and velourfog are close in rating now, as are waffles and consul (and Paul and arjun are not that far apart).

Re: Triplechain

It's great that you are keeping the stats and doing a summary, nails. Much appreciated.

I know Zac has not had much/any time to work on the site, but I was thinking of sending him a note on 4 things.

1) It would nice to have tourney scores showing up as "hidden" (just like a DC score) until both opponents have completed the game. The chance for abuse is an obvious reason, but another is when you can't help but see in the "recent scores" column that someone you are playing just pulled a 6000 range score or a 47000+ score and you are thinking...."I wish I never saw that.." You run into a game with 1s coming hard and think is this the 6000 game? I don't think any of us want this accidental and not very helpful (lol) info...

Also, I think we are all (well most of us) pretty cautious about not playing a tourney game right after an opponent has. It just feels wrong. Any of that concern would be gone if the score was "hidden."

2) Do we need a reset of the timed ratings? 80% plus of the players there have not played timed in years. I really think a reset might get some more interest in timed. It is bit like blitz chess in that some people (not me) can play with little drop off in performance while others cant. It would be nice to see what some future timed ratings look like compared to tourney or DC ratings. It might get players who used to play timed out again to see where they stand. Also might encourage someone to run timed tourney. The old gold trophies were all timed tourneys, and I am guessing that could be revived into a yearly thing..

Are there any objections to me asking Zac to look at a timed rating reset? I don't want to ask if there are concerns or downsides to the request...or if the historical record is important.

That said, we survived changes to the DC ratings, and are living with past players dropping down and off.

3) There is a glitch in practice mode that wont allow you to take a number off the board. It wold be nice to have that fixed.

4) the puzzle mode counts your score in a completed game, but it still wont "visually" accept the last number in rack 9.. It scores the game as if the number is there, but it wont show it there..

Any comments or anything else...??

Re: Triplechain

1. Years ago tourny scores used to be hidden as well. If I remember correctly the issue came during the first free for all. I think that no scores would show up until everyone completed the game and with some people not playing for weeks you couldn’t really see how you were doing until the end.

2. I’m good with this. It would still be nice to get a weekly game going at a set time. I’ll prolly just start posting a day or 2 in advance and whoever wants to jump in can. Been waiting for the match play to end though as to not interfere.

3&4. Experienced both. Could be easy fixes or not depending on what causes it.

Re: Triplechain

Considering the month I am having I should almost feel bad about my play with the 45 in yesterday's (sept 18) DC in rack 5. Knew it put stress on the east zone but wanted to pair the 2 in the zone with no 1s... Cascading effect forces me into needing a 6 in rack nine, with no 1 or 2....less than 10% chance of that happening, I figure...

boom 65554... I'll take it...

SubArc won 7 of the first 15 DCs in September to establish a huge lead, then cruised the rest of the way. SubArc's 9 DC wins for the month is an all-time record, and his score of 308 is ninth-best ever. And he extended his monthly top 10 streak to 12 straight months.

-- Despite only 2 DC wins for the month, Bandwagon finished second thanks to 12 top-4 finishes, while Derwi and consul rolled up 5 wins each to take third and fourth, respectively. nails rounded out the top 5.

-- The rest of the top 10 was separated by about 30 points. wafflesobv snuck into the last spot after an 8th-place finish on the last day of the month. anton-09, arjun13, and velourfog finished just outside the top 10.

I liked the wins for sure but outside of that it was not near the kind of month that Dogfloss had in June (344 points with 8 wins) and velourfog's (344 points in January with 15 top 4 finishes). Those were dominating months imo.. In September I had zero 2nd place finishes. I was just lucky that my good games ended up as wins..

On another matter, it seems to me that 1385 is the new 1400 as far as DC rating goes. Both waffles and Bandwagon have been flirting with 1400 (and they will hit it and higher), but that mark is becoming harder and harder to get to.

With the loss of Paul, mrgibson, Alex, Gabe, wetwilly et al, the relative value of DC ratings have changed dramatically. The more the average player ranking drops, the harder it is to climb or maintain your rating.

For example:

On May 10. 2016 the average rating of the top 10 players was 1407, and there were 6 players with 1400+ ratings.

On April 24, 2017 the average rating of the the top 10 players was 1402, and there were 4 players with 1400+ ratings.

Today, October 1, 2018 the average rating of the the top 10 players is 1385, and there are 2 players with 1400+ ratings.

Keep pushing for orange (and higher) waffles, Bandwagon et al, but keep in mind that if there was such a thing as an adjusted rating value, you are both already there....sort of...lol

the worst for me was about a month and a half ago. i was sitting at 1399 and managed to win the DC the next day, but that was the day when like 15 or so of us finished #1. so i didn't hit 1400 then promptly dropped the next 2 days lol

-- Excluding Alex, who hasn't played a DC since August, there are currently 10 TripleChain players with a DC rating over 1350. Those 10 players comprised the top 10 in DC points in October.

-- The top 3 were separated by just 6 points. Hg80 got the win, followed closely by arjun13 and SubArcticK. Each of them had at least 6 wins during the month, but no second places and just one third. The wins were enough to outpace the rest of the field.

-- After Dynasty in fourth, there was a sizable drop-off to the remaining six, though they were bunched fairly tightly together. Kokirixx had 5 wins but few other top-5 finishes and ended up ninth; dogfloss had just 2 wins but 11 top-5 finishes and ended up seventh. jamcat1, shamsnemesis, and consul finished just outside the top 10.

-- As we head into the last two months of 2018, SubArc is on the cusp of a year for the record books. He needs 6 wins and 225 points to break the calendar-year records for each of those categories. He needs 24 yearly race points to break the calendar-year record there, too. SubArc is riding a 13-month streak of top-10 finishes, matching a previous streak from mid-2016 to mid-2017. In fact, those two streaks are separated by just one month, meaning he's finished in the top 10 in 26 out of the last 27 months. So he's been on a bit of a heater...
