I assume basic strategy - board #2 in my post #2643. One of the few setups, together with Dynasty strat, that can afford a 'hole' in the center zone.

i'm much more concerned about wtf to do with 2s in round 5-8 that i can't pair with round 1-4 2s than i am about having a 'hole' in the centre in round 1-4

OK, so I've had suspicions for a while, and TH has pointed out that rating penalty is being removed far slower than should be expected, but I now have the clearest evidence yet that the rating system is completely screwed up. I'll elaborate tomorrow after speaking to Zac.

Interested in hearing more about this. I've been trying to follow my rating and deviation, but have been quite confused about the numbers compared to what calculator says for a while now. Haven't spent any time trying to figure out what is wrong though, but I've definitely thought there could be some other reason than deviation going down too slowly. Checking the actual calculations vs. calculator is still on my to do list, might have time to do that towards the end of next week.

it's easy not to care about rating when you win 1/2 of all DCs

What I noticed didn't need in-depth analysis to discover... I'm pretty sure you'd also report what I noticed.

You are the person who probably has the most posts about his/her rating itt.

But yea, lol us for trying to help Zac fix a problem.

Butnah. Haven't you followed the news in the past few years? Unlike in civilized countries, where people actually try to correct things that are wrong, the Spanish way to deal with problems is to just sweep them under the rug and hope they resolve by themselves.

Nah, this was just a good catch of weird behavior. Seeing your rating go down a point when you post the highest score of the day is definitely strange.

Thanks to Paul I was able to track down a small bug that had the effect of slowing down the reduction of uncertainty in everyone's rating. It has a negligible effect overall, but now that it's fixed there shouldn't be any more weirdness in edge cases like his.

I had some weird 'Ruby' related screen pop up whilst i was playing today, but unfortunately when i went back it still remembered where I was in the DC when the crash happened

Hmm, how does having a different deviation make a player lose rating, when posting the highest score? I don't see how these are related.

That happens when the game is being modified.

Higher deviation = higher rating penalty. So Paul's rating penalty went up by enough to more than offset the two wins he'd had so far that day. Probably dropped from 1496.501 to 1496.499 or something like that.

Yeah, you were probably playing when I uploaded the fix mentioned above. Sorry about that!

How can the deviation/penalty go up? Afaik that should only happen due to the inactivity penalty, and that can't happen when a player plays the DC in question, and hasn't skipped the previous DC.

That was the bug. Penalty was being applied to some people who had played the previous challenge.

I'm an idiot. Threw away a DC win yesterday with a completely unnecessary fps in rack 7. Sick thing is that I was about to make the right play, but then for some unknown reason used undo to change the play. I've now thrown away DC wins with stupid rack 7, 8 and 9 mistakes in the last 50-ish games (estimation, too lazy to check actual number of games).

Oh how many wins I could have had without those ******ed late rack mistakes, and had I run at EV.

You still seem to be the early standard bearer.

I was the first to play yesterday's DC. As soon as I finished the game, I thought "I'm definitely winning this and I don't think anybody will even tie me." It felt like I pitched a perfect game.

yeah you made the glorious nuts yesterday

You must have been fistpumping to see rack 7 when the 6s came and rack 8 when the 5s came, while paul must have been puking @ rack7

My setup was not very well and it turned to rubble very quickly too

I wasn't especially happy with Round 6, 7 or 8 tbh. Probably close to the nut worst Rounds for my debateable/bad Round 5 play. Somehow though, no matter how badly things screw up, I never manage to come dead last. jpm scoring less than me yesterday is impressive.

Yesterday my position at rack 8 as interesting - I could play safe and connect the 4 with the major chain (which adds more points than connecting the 6s) or go for the nutty score by connecting the 6s and hoping for a 4 in rack 9 (which I did and which did not happen). When making the choice I already know my score was a beating, because I had guessed rack 2 correctly, going for 5s as major inner chain.

kokirixx, we played rack 1-2 almost identical, but you really misplaced that 1 in rack 2. It should go where I put it, so you pave the way for 3x1s in the left zone. The left zone in Dynasty strategy is the only zone that can contain 3x1s, if all three chains are getting fully developed.
