One of my main concerns at this point is what story(stories) would be accepted for this list. YA is out, but what about something that might be classified as a fable, or a short story collection? That's why I've held off on I, Robot.

I honestly didn't think this would get guessed, as I'd argue it has no business being on the list. It's not sci-fi/fantasy at all. Gulliver's Travels has a much better claim.

I find fantasy harder to judge when putting it on a list, especially a combined list. However, I will go with the first book I thought of, way back when: A Wizard of Earthsea.

So I'm reading these atm but been holding back because they feel quite YA'y.

That The Hobbit didn't make it made me especially worried

I suppose it has a young protagonist, but it never felt particularly YAish. Here's hoping.


The line is very blurred in this category. Then again, Ender's Game could be viewed in the same light.

I'd argue that talking farm animals qualifies it for both sci-fi and fantasy.
