I also couldn't come up with McCafferty, and for Vermeil I could only come up with that guy who cries alot, did one game a few years ago on Monday night, and narrated a film about not leading with your head that I must have watched a half dozen times or more before each season, but alas no name. The ones that willie put down that I didn't know were Ewbanks and Flores.

One question I did have was are we allowed to put down answers while bidding? I opened up notepad and started jotting down answers as I came up with them so I knew what my maximum bid should be, is that allowed or not?

yeah I think that's OK. obv on game shows you dont get to take notes. but you also dont have to type out your answers, so I'm ok with it.

Teams that have won a Superbowl with overall losing records in the Superbowl:

Denver Broncos (won numbers 32, 33; lost 12, 21, 22, 24)
Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams (won 34; lost 14, 36)
Miami Dolphins (won number 7; not sure exactly how many they've lost, I know they lost 5 to Baltimore and lost one in the early 80's to San Francisco. Also I think they lost to Dallas.)

Whoops, Baltimore beat Dallas in Superbowl 5, not Miami. However Miami is still correct for the posed question.

By the way I hate you True North (kidding)...that will teach me to type out long responses.

fleeborg its wierd to me how you can keep track of the superbowl numbers. the media always refers to SBs by numbers and i have to decode it to the year every time. (and when in writing i have to decode it from XXIV to 24 to to '89). do you think of the number or the year first?

step 1 in willie's recruitment pitch for the blackjack card counting team he's assembling, imo.

The whole SB year/Roman Numerals dichotomy (not really a dichotomy, but I'm going with it) throws me off too. I remember them by numbers for the early ones, and then switch to years around 1980, going by the year the season started, rather than the year of the game. But I always end up forgetting a couple that way. Whereas I can recite the World Series winners and losers for every year since about 1960 like it's the alphabet.

I have a couple index numbers. The Bears are my favorite team, and I know without thinking the year the crushed the Patriots was the 1985 season and Superbowl 20 (Superbowl in January 1986). So since 85 - 20 = 65, if you know the last two digits of the year you subtract 65, if you know the Superbowl number you add 65. Which one of these numbers I know first depends on which Superbowl it is (weird I know) but it's fast to convert.

Also it has stuck in my head that Pittsburgh/Dallas happened in Superbowls 10, 13, and 30. So it is something to interpolate with.
