looks like bloo was able to lift us out of 'the great walrus depression of 2014'. so let's keep this going.
while he is revealing, here is a new sign-up.
how to play:
you pick one song for each of the 7 categories i post and send them to me in a pm (with youtube links)
i will rank the songs. ranking is based on 1) how much i like the song, 2) category fit, 3) uniqueness of the pick (no strict rule about obviousness, but try to not submit songs that we've all heard a hundred times)
categories:
1) a wake up song - i'm not talking about 7 am on a cold monday morning in february here. think sunny saturday morning, you slept in, in all likelihood it's going to be a glorious day. so with which song would you like to start it?
2) a 2014/15 song - unfortunately we didn't have a 'best of 2014' walrus. i blame nick and bloo for going to asia during the time when that should have happenend to eat spiders and whatever else they were doing
. but here is your chance to submit a 2014 song. and since we are already a couple of month into 2015 let's include that time as well
3) a song that builds - a song where in some way the intensity builds over time. (sigur ros = 0, i love sigur ros and songs that build are obviously their thing but i don't want this to be a "rank these sigur ros songs" category)
4) a melancholic song - let's bring down the mood
5) a sweet song - so in his reveal bloo described a song as 'almost offensively twee' which made me question if such a thing even possible. we will see. give me something cute, sweet, adorable, whatever you want to call it
6) a travel song - a song about travelling or a song that inspires you to travel
7) an album closer - i like listening to complete albums. for an album to be really outstanding it has to have a great closer. something you look forward to
my taste:
first of all i would say: who cares what i like? just submit something you like and laugh at me if i hate it.
anyway, some might want to describe my taste as hipsterish
i usually lean towards the various forms of indie and alternative music with a lot of electronic and folk music mixed in. also some post-rock and punk. and a good popsong is always welcome. hiphop and rnb could work but it's pretty hit and miss. i have basically zero exposure to country music and so far no one convinced me that i should change that. usually metal isn't my thing. same goes for jazz and soul. if a song could be described as funky you probably want to save it for a different walrus. that's all i can think of right now.
deadline: february 26 (assuming that bloo is done by then. otherwise until his reveal is finished)
