Bloo, have you heard this Baboon? It's my favorite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owTxW2cIdpo

I assume you went quiet over loud on purpose, but I'm always happy to share that link

Category #2 - Darkness

Submit a song with sound of a creepy or unsettling mood. I'm aware we've had similar categories to this recently, but I can't pass on it because dark songs are some of my favorites. The darker the better - it can be downright depraved if you want. Looking for sound here, not lyrics. I will accept songs where the vocals aren't dark, but the instrumentals are.

In 19th,

Owner Of A Lonely Heart submits Hour of Reckoning by Desperate Measurez

Score: 4.5

Quote:
Organ everywhere. I think I might not like that instrument too much because I wanted it to fade into the background after a while and let some other instrument have the front. No interesting sounds happened either. Maybe more of the evil voice would have been cool.

KarmaDope submits Overdose Delusion by Akira Yamaoka

Score: 4.8

Quote:
Nothing interesting ever happens. It got better after 2 minutes but not good enough.

In 17th,

Xicor submits Kaleidoscope by Knife Party

Score: 4.8

Quote:
From 1:00 to 1:30 a tune shows up that I really like. And then it doesn't return which makes me sad because I find the rest of the song to be pretty dull.

Score: 5.0

So this is one of those songs where you can appreciate what it's doing on the first listen and then it totally loses its impact on subsequent listens. The singing is pretty nice, I guess.

Score: 6.3

So Mike Patton's singing kind of annoys me in this song. I have no idea if he is also that deep male voice, but I like those parts much better. The instrumental could have been a little more interesting and that coital moans part was kinda weird.

I think everything about this is decent except Serj's voice. Could've have scored higher with a different singer, perhaps.

In 13th,

Walrein submits Harby 1975 by Strawberry Girls

Score: 7.2

Quote:
This is pretty boring for about the first third of the song, but it gets better after that. The drums occasionally have moments where they pop off and it's cool. I probably enjoyed the sound the guitars change to near the end the most.

Great instrumental - especially during the choruses. Potentially could have scored higher with some more interesting vocals, but they were good enough. I didn't like the outro very much, however.

soah submits The Cry of Silence by Draconian

Score: 7.7

Quote:
About 13 minutes long... The vocals for this song are pretty cool. They're some of the most hellish extreme metal vocals I've heard yet. Overall the song is good but not amazing since nothing really stands out to me other than that beautiful violin/piano outro. I wanted more of that. Or maybe more of the part where the song picked up its pace near the end.

CrimsonFox submits In The Cage by Genesis

Score: 7.7 (8.2, -0.5 deduction)

Quote:
That organ (or whatever it is) tune that starts around 1 minute in and recurs throughout the song is fantastic. That keyboard solo is even more fantastic... too bad it wasn't dark despite being the best part of the song. Deduction because I felt the song failed to be dark in several areas.

I'm familiar with Summertime '06 and this is one of my favorite tracks on it. I think that muffled background speech that sound like it came from some paranormal investigation recording really make the song for me.

In 7th,

Weatherguy submits Prime Time of Your Life by Daft Punk

Score: 8.0

Quote:
I feel like I should dislike this more just because the song seems so lazy and effortless, but I don't. I think this makes me realise I like noise more than I previously thought. 2 minutes in a buzzy beat starts that just gets faster and faster. It's uncomfortable and I like it for that.

In 7th,

xander biscuits submits Come To Daddy by Aphex Twin

Score: 8.0

Quote:
I'll be honest - I hate the lyrics to this song. They're super lame. However, if I ignore them, I find myself really liking everything else about the song. That distorted, creature-from-another-planet yelling part is awesome.

This song has a fantastic instrumental. I would've liked Yorke's vocals to sound a bit cleaner for this particular song but they were good enough.
