Sorry guys, it’s never fun having to go with a 0 clue on the 2nd turn.
NASA - 3 was for
Telescope/Washington/Board. You guys almost got there, but
Cold got mentioned and we were plying catch-up from there.
Pupil was a fine guess, I was already trying to figure out how to steer you away from the assassin.
I’m going to channel my inner Nichp for a second and just say this: when I clue NASA, a correct answer is never, ever Cold. When I give clues, I am looking for direct connections/attributes of the specific word I clue. I pretty much stick to the following thought process: What is it? What does it do? What does it have? If a word is on the list that doesn’t hit one of those three questions, then it almost certainly shouldn’t be considered. This is especially true when the connection is secondhand, meaning you must first make a connection to a word that’s not on the list and then make a connection to that word. That’s a no-no.
NASA uses telescopes (What does it do?)
NASA is an agency in Washington (What is it?)
NASA has a board of directors (What does it have?)
NASA is not cold. Space is cold. If you have to go Clue—>Non-list word—>List word, then it is not the word you’re looking for.
A classic example where this happened was when Nich clued “Artful” and our team bolded “Stadium” because Artful’s last name is Dodger. That’s not how this works. I’m beating a dead horse here, but it’s not how I clue.
Dyatlov - 0
I needed to get you off of
Cold while also steering you away from
Pass, which left
Board in a decent spot.
Of course, since none of you were familiar with the
Dyatlov Pass Incident, it became moot really quickly.
Filthy was right on - if I had been clueing something from Chernobyl, I would’ve clued…Chernobyl. It figures a) there’d end up being a character named Dyatlov and b) one of you would recall that. Oh well.
I can see why
Point was bolded, but again, it mostly related to a connection of a connection (you point a telescope) rather than being directly connected to NASA. But I get it. Not sure why the group was so soft on
Board, which got very little discussion.
arm - 3 was for
Octopus/Thumb/Nail. Before you call me on Thumb and Nail being a connection to a connection (arm —> hand —> thumb/nail): all three are body parts. I saw the
Police connection, but it didn’t bother me. I wanted to clue
hand - 3 because I wasn’t sure how I was going to get you guys to
Tag, but
Pass was a blocker.
I got excited when it looked like the red team might guess
Nail in the final round. Probably would’ve clued
game - 2 and hoped you’d pick both
Board/Tag and avoided
Pass to close it out.
All told, it was nice to to shake the rust off. We’ll get ‘em next time.
