story of my poker life matt. move up, run horrifically.

(edit: that was meant to come out much more sympathetically than it did. It royally sucks and I feel your pain.)

Yeah sucks but at least you'll hopefully learn from it.
I think when I first moved up to 400NL I was somewhat scared (scarriest move up for me, the others before went kinda smooth) and lost like 5k and moved back down to grind it back.
The thing I took away from it was that I did run horribly and got coolered a bunch but I knew that if all goes average I could beat the level and that motivated me a lot to get back.

You'll also hopefully not have tilted too much. It'll be somewhat sick for a couple of days when you look at your cashier and go "why did I move up" but once you get over that and realize that you were +EV and hopefully realize that at the end of the day the bigger sums didn't scare you as much as you thought you'll actually take your next shot with a lot more confidence.

Was not the first time this guy showed up with an ace. He obviously didn't know the rules and lost a couple hundred dollars. Unfortunately most of it wasn't to me. I sharkscoped him and he's down 25k in sngs too.

congrats cue

so my money situation is real bad right now. I have $88 in my checking account, and $70 in my savings account. When I quit my job, it was with the intention of playing enough poker to support myself for a year, plus the $20k I had in savings. Well, that didn't work out. I've cashed out maybe $3k in poker since March of last year. While I love to complain about running bad (and in fairness, I'm pretty sure I ran well below expectation in 2008), my biggest problem is never playing. So for the next month, I've pretty much made a promise to myself to grind, grind, grind. So far, so good. I played 50 DoNs yesterday (had class), and 59 DoNs today (had bowling). The numbers...

Monday: 31/50 - +$200
Tuesday: 36/59 - $212.80

Obv I'm running hot. But if I can make $50-$80 a day, I'll be able to afford rent and my health insurance. Here's hoping.

kyro,

just make a small prop bet with someone that you will have X amount of w/e done by Y time. It will help motivate you. Thats why JaredL and I made that bet.

Dude, if not being able to afford my rent/insurance this month isn't enough to motivate me, then some silly prop bet isn't going to motivate me either.
