I'd much rather bet flop (and check back most/all turns) in a vacuum. People call with gutshots and pairs. But it depends if you think it's more likely he'll call a bet on the flop or bluff the turn.

Dunno about the levels etc but if you check back flop semi-thinking players tend to bluff little because a checkback on such a dry board usually means some piece on your part (which also means that you can delayed cbet these flops well vs people that don't bet any turn if flop is checked through). I know that kinda goes against the "people will call flop" but there's a wide enough range that they will fold UI that you usually want to fold if you bluff with your 5 high on that flop.

Probably gotta call and call or call and fold river as played depending on your read on villain. He really shouldn't bet a worse hand on the river all that often.

Raise on the turn doesn't make too much sense as you'll only get action from hands that beat you. Even against some aggrotard where you can hope to induce with a gay little raise I'd rather tank and call and hope he bluffs river again.

Try saying out loud why you make bets for a while, should improve your game a bunch. Just start on the flop with value;bluff/"take it down bet with likely the best hand" and list some hands that you want to call your valuebets and some hands that you want to fold to your bluff in your head.

yeah, my thinking (and I'm not defending it, simply stating it) was that I look weak because I bet a ton HU, and I'm usually betting that flop (rightly or wrongly, his pre-flop range is ****ing huge here) a ton, and my check probably means it missed me, because I'm betting when I hit or miss it usually. I thought he could bet/call the turn with literally any pocket pair, and if he paired the turn brick, which was a 6 iirc, because I would do that with air more often than I would do it with a hand.

Dunno, I may just be trying to justify bad play though.
