They didn’t have a winning season their first 10 years in existence.
Beyond being bad, they had bad luck. They posted 6 90+ win seasons where they did NOT make the playoffs.
In 1994, they were in first place when a player’s strike ended the year and no division titles were awarded. They sold off their best players during the strike and that was that.
They have only 3 HOF players wearing their uniform: Gary Carter, Andre Dawson and Tim Raines.
In 2002 MLB had to buy the team because nobody would give them funding and they played 22 “home” games in Puerto Rico in each of their last 2 seasons, playing on the road the rest of the games.
Then they were moved to Washington to become the Nationals, where they struggled for years (7 seasons without getting over .500) before finally getting to first round (only) of playoffs a few times.
They are one of only 2 franchises to never have won a league pennant or played in the World Series.
Harsh, but not unfair. The Expos had the bad luck to be at their best at the same time that the Braves were dominating in the NL. Of course, I am still bitter about '94.
I would like to point out that I went deep into bolt's thunderdome on the backs of those Expos.
