I'm fine with research. If anything it helps the Chameleon more than the villagers. As it makes all clues more obscure which is only good for the chameleon.

i'd rather just ban research at any stage; that way i don't have to think about voting eb because he didn't google "poppy nurse" and similar situations

Here is my take. People have been dropping in links and quotes from other chameleon games to show how person x did this or that. That is clearly research. I have also seen people say I am going to look at other games to see how person y clued as chameleon. Once again, this is research.

The rules OP does not say NO RESEARCH..

JM3 has been asked a few times about research and the answer has always been that apparently it is allowed.. So why change the answer mid-tourney?

Imo it should be a question for after this tourney is over..

yeah, forgot to mention that. i'd be happy to finish the series as it's going now and make the changes for future chameleon games

would it be significant to have a difference between "no research" and "no outside research"? say, if we wanted to preserve people linking/quoting prior games, but ban googling or looking elsewhere on 2+2

I'd say no research is better, but make the change next time. Continue the tourney as is.

I do think people should be able to look at other games, as is done in ww.

I tried this with Shepard Jungle in our game and it didnt yield anything convincing, FWIW. I didnt try too hard, though.

Don't change horses mid-stream, but when we come to another stream, let's use the horse with blinders on. The exception I would be okay with is getting the definition of a word you don't know. In such a case, it is probably best to ask the clue giver for the definition, so as to make sure that no extraneous information is seen accidentally.

When I made the randomizer, I intentionally didn't put in sets I thought might be problematic. I think there are a couple that feature movies or fictional characters. If a non-chameleon doesn't know what the target word is, it really sucks.

I guess that's an argument for research, but with the current set it should mostly not be a problem.

EDIT Welp, the current list could be a problem. But I guess research is still OK...
