Location is excellent (walking distance to everything). I have a pretty high tolerance for general life-related bull****, such as dealing with idiot frat bros. The arrangement is decent; I have my own room in a kind-of-separate building (it's built into the main house, but has no access to it, and a separate entrance to the outside). Noise generally isn't an issue, and even on the rare occasion when it gets noisy, my little shack-thing has pretty good sound insulation, and noise doesn't bother me when I'm sleeping.

Really it's the location/price/situation combo. The price (rent $535 a month) is decent for one person at that location. The area is mostly older single-family homes converted to student housing; there aren't that many options for one person to rent - if you want a one-bedroom apartment it's either farther away from campus, or recent construction tailored to students living off daddy's trust fund (think rooftop pool, etc.). There are some other options, but they're limited. If I had another person or two I could get a similar or better rate, but none of my friends here were interested in moving into the student ghetto.

edit: campus parking is $600 a semester, that definitely entered into my financial planning. Unfortunately attempts at brutal anal rape on utilities didn't. My mistake.

I'll try talking to... somebody?... about the numbers. I kind of doubt that helps, because I'm thinking more along the lines of $25, maybe $30 since it's the summer, for electricity.

I'll also give a written request for the signed copy of my lease that I am long since legally entitled to, and get a signature. In the rather likely case that they lost the lease, I have the option to simply terminate the lease with ten days' notice.

Just find out who is in charge of getting utilities collected first off. Tell them the amount you were asked to pay was inaccurate and you want to know how they are split. You will most likely get something like "evenly among everyone". Your response "I don't think that's fair since I don't use anywhere near that amount personally, not do I share in regular usage of the main house and activities that go on enough to warrant even distribution, you need to tell me a reasonable amount that I owe or just show me what it stipulates in the lease I signed...where is that btw?"

I don't mind being judged. Furthermore I've been revealing and open about stuff I don't need to be on a regular basis. I have nothing to hide and am only partially ashamed of things I've done / things I do. I try to be honest and answer any question asked of me truthfully. Full disclosure includes that I am dating a vapid girl right now. She is very hot and WAS somewhat good to me, but the fact that she is so young is getting to me so im going to end it today. I was blown off all weekend and it really got to me for some reason, was definitely age related.

Pretty lol not having utilities included. Talk to whoever handles boarders and house maintenance, usually the vp. Ask to see the electric bill
