I wonder what they're planning to do for the winter. (How far south are you, kcaw?)

I suppose I should be able to tell what species they are, but I don't know. I believe most North American hibernate, which could be interesting for you.

They look like upside down furbies

I was thinking little brown or big brown. (We just got a bunch of big browns in a bat house at my aunt's house this year.)

I found one article that said big browns sometimes spend the winter in houses.

If they do spend the winter, they'll seem to be dead:
Quote:
The breathing of a hibernating bat is imperceptible, and its body cold to touch. Its heartbeat drops from roughly 400 beats per minute, when awake, to about 25 in hibernation, and its body temperature drops to within a few tenths of one degree of the surrounding cave.

Will it wake up if you disturb it??

I hope they do spend the winter.

from the wiki article: "When fall comes, both sexes fly south to a hibernaculum, where they mate and then hibernate."

Not sure what it means, but they mated twice here recently.

They're active often throughout the day. They groom constantly if they're awake it seems. They are very meticulous.

It takes them many minutes to get ready for their nighttime departure.

Oh, that's actually pretty cool. And the pic is schweet, I've never seen them so up close.

But I meant during hibernation

oh, the article did say they aren't true hibernators and will wake up if the weather is warm, but that part is tagged as "citation needed".

Hey! I grew up in that exact area.

You freeze your ass in the winter. You get soaked during spring. You sweat during the hot muggy summer. And fall is alternating days of summer and winter.

But they also have the best sports fans in the world. (Suck it Annie)

An old movie called "Chain Reaction" just started on one of the Cinemax channels. Here is the description from U-Verse:
Quote:
A machinist and female physicist, and other survivors, go on the lamb when they are wrongly blamed for a devastating explosion on a hydrogen-energy project.
Oh the humanity.

Did I mention it stars Keanu?
