From what I've read about this series, I've never been able to tell if I would like it.
It's weakly fantasy. It's more knights, dragons, War of the roses (but not the actual version), sex, incest, more incest and a good story.

Think of it as "50 Shades of Grey" for geeks.

I would be completely fine with him playing. For a while, a few years ago, I thought there was a chance he might some day. But he has no interest in it. It's dorky enough that I'd think he might, but the text-based nature would drive him away even if he tried it he neither reads nor writes comfortably or well. (Don't think this is for lack of my trying.)\

He knows the basics of the game and a bit of the theory, from my having talked about it.

I could imagine him perhaps, maybe, mayyyyybe enjoying a live game, but he's also not very sociable so he'd have already to know all the other players and be comfortable with them. And unfortunately, the only largish group of such people I know, the extended family of mine who spend the summer up here, would almost certainly never be inclined to play it. (a couple of them would, but collectively they wouldn't.)

So I doubt there's werewolf in his near future.

Game of Thrones book power rankings:

Game of Thrones >>> Storm of Swords >> Clash of Kings > Feast for Crows >>>>>>>>>>>>> Dance with Dragons.

They're basically solid pageturners, not worth the hype, but still a very fun read. Dance with Dragons suffers badly by focusing on my two least favourite character arcs and turning another character from the most interesting POV character to one of the worst.

I don't watch the TV show, so you'll have to rely on someone else there.

Nah, the first book is definitely the best. You've got a tighter, more focused story with a really good central plot and main character. By Storm of Swords, everything is just a little too all over the place.

God knows how he's going to manage the next book though. I make it 15 different arcs by the end of DwD, that gives him about 5 chapters per plot arc if he's going to keep the book the same length as DwD.

I have high expectations for these.. Should I lower them slightly so I don't get hurt?

xnerd have you never seen the tv show?!?! i had assumed you saw the tv show, and you could expect similar pleasure from the books as from the show.

myself i enjoy the show much more than the books. but that's because i have no patience for reading these days

Yes I've seen the tv show, that's why I'm asking :/

my daughter took pics of the bats with her much better phone.

here they are snuggling. They're truly my pets now it feels. They are surprisingly adorable.
