(Don't get me wrong, I love all things involving speed. But I think I'm gonna opt out of things that go fast and think for themselves lol)
"Think" for themselves, yes — but o, what strange thought processes sometimes. This afternoon my friend turned around, on her newly-purchased, largish, healthy ten year old (meaning about 1200 pounds of muscle, bone, and [tiny] brain) rather than try to get by a house that we knew would have geese at it... because geese, you see, are scary. Earlier in the ride, the same horse had thrice been completely spooked by signs. In one case, by a six inch by eight inch sign. I kid not — a half ton of vibrance and vigor was afraid of a small piece of painted metal. Which was not moving, I should add. Just sitting there in all its apparently-terrifying glory, on a two foot post beside the road.

A horse that is truly frightened is kinda unfun to ride.

The most amusing part of the story is that after my friend turned around, that left me with her ditzy sister. Who proceeded almost immediately to get us lost. (I had never been in the area, so I had no opinions on where we going; she was perfectly certain... until she had no idea.) It was fine — the only negative consequence is that the ride went longer than we'd planned, meaning my ass is not so thrilled right now. But still funny enough that it was probably worth it. And the day was gorgeous, so being out in it longer can't really have been a bad thing.

In terms of number of visitor visits, Blue Ridge Parkway is probably right up there with a lot of the biggest attractions. Because it's a pretty long road that for many people happens to be the best way to get from one place to another. (And also because it's very pretty.)

Anyone up for an avatar bet with me?

I mentioned both twice in the post. The Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I don't think I could ever live in a big city again for other reasons. I wish it weren't so but I just get disgusted being around so many people...I like solitude and quiet.

The corridor of protected land along the parkway is technically the most visited of all nationally protected lands in the country. The corridor itself is nothing special though after being affected by the building and existence of the brp. Most hikers know it as the area where it is illegal to camp.

Mountains to sea trail roughly follows the brp for its western half, and George Vanderbilt originally imagined the brp as a walking trail instead of a road

It is hands down the best way to get from Maggie Valley to Smoky Mtns Natl Park...or to Shenandoah from anywhere south

same thing happened to hifi. horse tried to kill her, only broke her spine or whatever, don't think she's ridden since

give me a giraffe any day. you can hug the stuffing out of their necks. of course, the higher you ride, the farther you fall.

I've got a week with Willi on Cleveland as well.

Obviously if Cleveland wins Tbob gets the first two weeks then I get a week.

Not that I necessarily expect Cleveland to win, but lolitsanavatar.

And despite the amount of heartbreak they have caused me, the Browns are and forever will be my team.

Shoot me some ideas for Tbob and SGT avatar.

I just got a letter in the mail saying they aren't going to file formal charges against me at this time for dui.

Pretty sure that means my blood work came back and I was either below or around the legal limit.

Really feel like I should sue them for negligence or something. Sue everyone!!

Yeah except my horse tried to kill me and it was pretty much entirely my fault. I wasn't an experienced enough rider to be using my friend's horse. My friend's horse was a 6yo mustang that had previously been wild, caught, and broken. It was an unreliable and untrustworthy horse, and I used him anyway on a pitch black desert night for a ride with a different friend.

I spooked him when I tried to light a smoke while on his back and a spark fell from it and the horse saw it in its peripheral vision, started bucking, I couldn't regain control. He then took me for an absolutely panicked and blind 1.5 mile run over rocky ground back to his coral. I jumped off when he slowed enough for me to tuck and roll, and never got on another horse again.

Hifi didn't do anything wrong, from what I understand. It was the horses fault. I can't say the same :/

Yeah, this was a thing my friends and I did a lot back then. They ran a horseback riding business at the edge of one of the state parks, and after the park closed at night, we would go back and ride the horses and hang out. We'd put beer in the saddle bags, amble the horses side by side and share a joint. There was zero possibility of ever being seen or bothering anyone else since it was empty park land.

This one event with the spark was extremely unfortunate. I remember yelling at my friend that the horse was losing his ****, and my friend yelling back at me 'get control, get control!'. I tried but it just freaked the horse out more and made him try to buck me off, so I ended up giving him the reins, and I leaned down and held his mane with my fists. He ran and tears were coming out of my eyes and streaming straight back into my hair. They'd clocked this horse at something close to the speed of a jetski and I was certain if I fell, I'd be very seriously injured. It was horrible.

Easily in my top 3 worst/scariest lifetime moments
