You're confusing correlation with causation.

There's no one set cause (that current medical science knows of) for Alzheimer's or other forms of organic dementia. People who are active appear to be less likely to develop things like this, but they can still get it, and lack of stimulating activities doesn't cause dementia.

Lack of mental stimulation is a risk factor and is correlated with higher levels, not a causal factor in the sense that if you just sit and stare at the wall, you'll get dementia. The processes are far more complex than that.

That doesn't stop people from trying to profit on the "lack of mental stimulation causes your brain to turn to mush!" panic. Doesn't make it true tho.

Well I'm not sure what a "viva" is in this context, but good luck to you still.

I'm sure I'll be in full blown terror the night before my dissertation defense (coming soon!). Is there any similarity between the two?

Amp: go on a Byronesque Grand tour - it might inspire great poetry.

I'll remember to take a great poet with me.

Grotta di Byron, Porto Venere, Italy - Byron's Meditation Cave

You know he fought the Ottoman Empire for the Greeks just for a lark? Except he developed a wild fever and died as soon as he got there.

Just look at this suave mother****er. That is poetry right there.

Yeah, I was aware that he is a Greek hero.
I think there is a statue of him in Athens.

I just read that "How are you?" response post.....and thought you would be a great candidate to go off and do a Grand Tour - go to Italy and trace the early tours or go to Greece and do the later Grand Tours - see the remains of the classical world and write some poetry.

That singlet is just a smidgen too metro (read: gay) for the English. (A tank top is strictly a sweater in the UK if I remember rightly.)

I mean, for my dissertation my chair would never let me go to defense if I wasn't ready.

That doesn't really make it any less nerve racking.

I'm an EXCELLENT test taker but I still got nervous for big exams.

Depends, honestly. I've gotten through with not quite opaque containers or slightly larger ones. I think I've one time had something like that thrown out.

They are a bit more lax as long as you don't push it too hard, I think. Also if you don't look like a terrorist.
