Saw that mark had made a pub post and thought it was going to be along the lines of "Walmart own brand cola is the best!"

FYI, I rarely buy soda from Walmart. Walmart has sucky soda prices.

My general rule is I never pay over $1 for 2 liter bottles or $3 for 12 can boxes.

so mark how much soda do you buy? how much money do you save on soda in a year? like if you just didn't pay attention to soda price.

I'm saving a ton atm. Because of Corona, food is takeout only and I bring my own soda. So my family restaurant soda bill went down to the cost of a few cans.

bro, i've been spending like 0 money. i've made all my own meals, and they're mostly beans and rice from costco. probably spent less than $5 a day on food and drink.

rent is over 90% of my expense

internet $50
car insurance $30
gas and water $40
rent $2200
food $120

i think that's it

I get free soda at work, which usually works out to the equivalent of 2 cans per shift. 12 packs of coca cola and coca cola products are usually 3.99, but are often buy 2, get 1 free, so that gets me down to ~2.66 for a 12 pack or 22 cents a can. And I probably drink about 4 or 5 cans a week at home.

But then I have a weakness for a brand called Jarritos, which is a Mexican soda, which comes in a glass bottle. These go for around 1.50/bottle at the grocery store.

And I also get a craving for cream soda, root beer, or black cherry in a bottle, which is also in the 1.50/bottle range.

my rent is like a quarter of that

Damn your rent! $120 on food... that’s like a fifth of what I spend

and my place is a studio apartment! lol!

downtown LA. my building has already lowered prices more than 10% cuz everyone is leaving. im leaving as soon as my lease is up at the end of the year. no reason at all to be paying LA prices when the city is shut down

normally i spend about the same on food. but i used to go to the grocery store like once a week and get good, healthy food. now i go like every other month and just take vitamins

it's ok though. i like eating beans and rice and olive oil.

wow! it's 6pm and 104 outside, and i'm totally cool inside with no AC! i do have one of my two ceiling fans going, but it's 78 in my apartment. really amazing insulation in modern homes.

Today i slept till about 9:30am and i was like "damn, i slept in". Ive been going to bed at midnight and waking up at 8am for months. This is coming from someone who once missed a dinner with pog friends due to sleeping in. Id been going to bed at like 5am for years. I thought being a night owl was in my genes. I cannot explain the switch.

50 pound bags of rice and beans at costco are absurdly cheap. i think it's about $20 for 75,000 calories... which is like 50 cents a day if that was all you ate

i think the beans are a little more per calorie. i think olive oil is about the same price per calorie as the rice.

120 a month was a guess, but it's somewhere around there

costco is pretty cheap. even mark will agree
09-06-2020 , 10:50 AM
Rotisserie chickens only 4.99! A loss leader, they say.
09-06-2020 , 10:53 AM
chicken used to cost more than lobster

even at 4.99 it's still very expensive per calorie compared to rice and beans in bulk.

but the chicken has way more nutrients
09-06-2020 , 10:55 AM
Filthy,
That chicken can last for multiple days and meals. The carcass can also be used to make soup. Getting even more for your $4.99.

true, but it's still only about 1000 calories for $5

compare that to $20(it might be $30) for 75,000
09-06-2020 , 10:59 AM
According to Google lard is the cheapest item per calorie.
09-06-2020 , 11:06 AM
nice! lol

but i think i'll keep splurging on rice, beans, and olive oil as the bulk of my calories

i do eat other things, pasta, nuts, cheese, juice, fruits, veggies, eggs, meat. just most of my calories come from rice beans olive oil
