people thought you were trolling because it's impossible for you not to be trolling

if something is boring and awful, no one would "try again" and hope it somehow changes when they watch it again

Could you go back in time and talk some sense into my high school English teacher?

Come on, nobody read the books they were supposed to in English class. Even before the internet we somehow found a way to write essays about the works of Thomas Hardy without ever actually reading the novels of Thomas Hardy.

Thank heaven for Coles/Cliffs Notes.

nothing can make you hate good literature as much as being forced to read it for English class.

Hello pub!

If you haven't already, please take a moment and fill out my survey to be used in a POG guesstamania game. Ten quick yes or no questions. However, please don't say in the thread if you have filled out the survey or not.

I’m trying to get a large cross-section of POG people, so I’m spamming this survey post everywhere I can think of. Sorry if you keep seeing it.

Thanks, and don't forget to play the game after the data collection is complete!

There is truth in that, but I have to admit I surprised myself with how much I liked some things. To Kill A Mockingbird (possibly the greatest English novel), The Reavers, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, even Moonfleet are pieces I really enjoyed. Then there were The Stone Angel (possibly the worst English novel) and Death of a Salesman and other unmitigated pieces of ****.

whoa whoa whoa what do you have against death of a salesman?

siege of krishnapur stands out as the book I hated the most of the ones I had to study at school

Funny, I read Seige Of Krishnapur a year or two ago and loved it. The whole trilogy is awesome.

It had no likeable characters, or even sympathetic or interesting characters. They were all grey pieces of ****.

Addition:
I will concede: the fact that I had to read it made me disinclined to try to get past all these problems and find some nugget worth appreciating.

In 20 years, high school students will be analyzing episodes of Friends.

I've chanced upon many a questionable post since I transitioned to lurk mode, but this is by far the most egregious.

Not really. Think pumpkin pie flavored drinks. My wife and daughter I guess likes them but I'm more a coffee guy or sometimes an occasional mocha.

i thought death of a salesman was written as a play. reading plays is generally awful imo. they need to be scene and heard, performed by great actors.
