last night i bought some salt because it cost 30x what the normal salt cost. it was only $7. i can pretend like i'm a billionaire and eat billionaire salt, and it only cost $7

man, i'm on a brutal downswing. i'm not losing THAT much, but it's just relentless. grinded 9 hours today. worst beat was gigantic raise preflop with AK. i get called by 75s. flop AK7. turn 7. river 6.

not as bad as last night when i 4bet AK 600 preflop. got called. flopped AT9 with about 2k more behind. he had AA *sigh*

Is your brother still struggling to find affordable rent?

Why waste money like this when you can do nice things like treat his family to dinner out or take your niece on vacation? I get that he won't just accept cash from you out of pride but there are other ways you can ease his strain.

Just a suggestion though, perhaps you value billionaire salt higher than that...

I was out black Friday shopping today. At the Pottery Barn in the local mall I sat on a sofa sectional that was more comfortable than my bed. All the sections are down filled. It was completely amazing.

After lounging for about 5 minutes, a sales associate came by. I asked how much does it cost? She said $7,500. (!!!) I actually had thoughts that yes this sofa is totally worth it. I thought sure it really isn't THAT much money... A few seconds later, I snapped out of it. Yeah, lol at spending $7,500 on a sofa. I then walked out of the store.

Our sofa was the first major piece of furniture we've bought - everything else is handed down. I think it cost £1000. Add a couple of chairs and some IKEA purchases and I think my entire house is furnished for £2k.

My neighbour was buying a horse box from some woman and he got chatting, next thing he's blagged her greenhouse for me! It took a bit of disassembly and reassembly plus £50 of replacement glass, but depending on the make it'd be anywhere up to £2k new. It's a biggie.

your house probably cost 2 million or so. your kids cost like 400k each. you have multiple cars. might as well spend 5k on a dream couch that feels like sitting on a cloud.

plus when your wife kicks you out of the bed for being an idiot and spending 5k on a couch, you'll have a very comfy place to sleep.

i know i have the rep of being financially irresponsible, and it's deserved in many ways. but i've spent less than all of you on....

clothes
tv
transportation
drugs and alcohol
entertainment

Didn't mean to bring up a sore subject. Spend away on billionaire salt. If you get value out of it then it's worth it.

doubt this very much.

I own and wear clothes that I've owned since I was 16. I don't spend on clothes for pleasure, just out of necessity.
Never paid extra for TV. Just the basic stuff that comes down the tubes.
I didn't own a car until very recently. I walked to work until September. Never owned a new car.
Spent very little on drugs, perhaps I spent more than you on alcohol.
I'm a cheap date. I'd rather stay in and watch a movie or play a game than go out anywhere. Very easy to entertain me.

But you've spent way more than me on salt, soup, seaweed, hoodies, socks, beds and generally just lighting money on fire.

The reason I don't spend the $7500 on a sofa isn't that I can't afford it. It's that I would rather save it for an unexpected expense or retirement. I can buy a $1500 sofa and still be 95% as satisfied.

im 47 so i've had more time to spend. i do still one shirt i bought when i was 11. i currently own one pair of pants. i've spent 0 on tvs and cable in my life.

i went to see star trek ~4 years ago. return of the king was the last movie i saw before that in theaters. i went to a concert in 2003. i went to a comedy show in the 90s. pretty sure i've spent 0 on sporting events

i don't know if i've ever bought salt before. i think this $7 might be the only money i've spent on salt. soup.... idk.... i only buy soup for me. you buy for 3 or 4 people.

if there is interest we could start a money thread and post all the money we spend

i live in hollywood, and i'm guessing my expenses are gonna be on the low end of poggers

all my general monthly expenses:

rent/bills ~1300
food ~200
gas ~ 35

plus every now and then a 10k bed and a trip to hawaii with models

last night in the parking lot this guy was telling me about reading "theory of poker" by sklansky. and today i'm getting suggestions online to buy that book. no other poker books. and i've never been suggested that book before
11-24-2018 , 04:02 PM
you might spend very little in general but if we add on these little splurges then you still spend more.

A typical month might be $200 in food (I'm guessing you get a lot of comped meals) but then you spent $300 on stuff for a picnic and then $200 on seaweed, tea and salt. It's going to at least double that total.

You might only own 1 pair of pants but you've bought ridiculously priced hoodies before now. That one splurge was more than I spent in 2 years on clothes.

Here's an idea: Do a video blog about what you spend your money on each day. I'd watch it.

i was gifted an ~$800 hoodie in the 90s. my current hoodie cost ~$100. a few years ago i bought a cashmere hoodie.... i think it was $75?

that 90s hoodie was sublime though. the cashmere was sooooo comfy! and it made me look muscular! it was like magic! i loved it so much! the $75 one i bought is crap. i never even wear it.
11-24-2018 , 04:29 PM
My $3 Walmart hoodie is awesome. Very soft on the inside and is a simple machine wash whenever needed.
11-24-2018 , 04:49 PM
i highly recommend my $100 hoodie. it's simple cotton. it's "overpriced" because it's made by american labor. it's not made in a sweatshop. yeah, i buy a lot of sweatshop products, but i try to avoid it when i can

https://www.american-giant.com/home/

if you buy one, you'll probably be very happy with it. this is my second one, and i love it. i wear it basically every day.

This is the point filth. The first $1000 got you like 95% of the satisfaction, and the next $9000 is then 19*9 times worse value for money. Unless you get genuine satisfaction from knowing you're spunking off money.
11-24-2018 , 05:05 PM
i know!!! i agree!!! i've said over and over that i regret buying my bed! i try not to think about it because i know i could have saved like 6k and got an amazing bed i love

For any Minecraft fans...

I finally lit up my End portal tonight!!! I didn't go in because it's a one way trip and I have too many levels of experience that I don't want to lose. But soon.

This was the first time I got this far in all my years of playing Minecraft.
