What about something as simple as the Legacy advantage? That definitely hurts non legacy students.

If the legacy student pays >= their true cost of admission then it should have 0 impact because at a macro level you could add xxx number of those and the costs to expand would be offset by their admission. But since I suspect that isn't how much they pay, then it's probably a disadvantage for others.

I guess theres also a prestige factor where when too many people get admitted it means less the graduate from there?

What a scam, and what pigeons people are to still put up with it and pay.

I think most people get some sort of discount. Actually I wonder if there is some sort of cabal between universities to not complete too much with lower prices.

If I had a college age kid no way am I paying rack rate. What an incredible ripoff.

I say put these no-good urchins to work, the earlier the better. England had it right back in Dickens' time.

What's the justification for the 'emtry fee'?
03-25-2019 , 04:16 PM
Are international students making it harder to get in to some US universities? And, no, this is lot a racist or loaded question I am just asking because in many cultures/ countries high grades are simply an expectation, and I am wondering if that ups the bar for all applicants?

I know in Canada Universities can and do charge much, much more for an international student, so I would expect from that perspective the more the better as far as the institution is concerned (to a point, as the unis receive public funds as well).

The US already has super high tuition, so I am not sure if international students pay any more than Americans.. Do they??

uc berkeley and all the ucs used to be free to california residents. in the 90s when i was going to ccsf it was $5 a unit, capped at $60 a semester. people got upset and protested when they raised the price to $6 a unit

iirc it was about 10x for out of state, and 20x for international

There have been recent stories in the news about rich and famous people paying to get their kids into schools. Aunt Becky dropped $500k for her Youtube personality daughter to go party at USC.

Should have just done what Dr Dre did and donate $70 million to the school.

Every school for which I've known someone who goes there charges more for international students.

Most charge more for out of state students iirc. But almost def all "state" schools.

At conservatory a huge % of our student body was international, and iirc their tuition was almost entirely need-based. I knew a few Korean girls who came from wealthy families and they paid basically the same as any out of state student, but I also knew a student from Mongolia, desperately poor, who came on a full ride. She was so poor she couldn't afford our lunch plan and we all took turns making sure she got meals swiped from our key cards bc for some reason the school didn't cover her board..

I know other conservatories, especially those with endowments, work similarly. So could be different with private schools.

I also went to a school you couldn't fake getting into, so.. there's that at least

if its not too much trouble could you recommend a cruise from LA to cabo? just like 3 or 4 days
03-25-2019 , 09:12 PM
I'm going on a cruise from Long Beach that includes Cabo at the end of May, but I somehow doubt xn would approve of my choice of cruise accommodations.

Filthy, I think this the season where ships get repositioned and they do the panama canal cruises. Go for it!

there is a costco right next to the casino. i'm thinking about joining. i think it's $60 for year, or $120 and i get 2% back.

the big drawback is it closes at 6pm, so i'd have to shop before my session and leave everything i buy in the car for ~8 hours while i grind.

i think all i'd really buy is food and alcohol and gas? do they have good cruises?
03-25-2019 , 10:13 PM
Costco feels like it's everything that you stand against?
