I dont see why people dont just do that, there are plenty of normal people that cant have kids that would give ur offspring a good upbringing, and its another circumstance where you are passing on your DNA and exerting your influence on the world.
I cannot remember a feeling as strong as the first time i saw my son. For all the good reasons to consider adoption, I think that it must be a vary hard road to take.

First glance said chukar, but then I figured with kokiri posting it I needed to take off my North American goggles; hence, red-legged partridge.

Re the unwanted pregnancy thing and telling, or not, the boyfriend right away:
  • Most pregnancy scares are false alarms, and the women know this.
  • Any guy who thinks that it's inherent to the relationship that he be the first one informed, when we're talking about an unmarried couple, doesn't understand how women view relationships.
  • One thing that women like to ignore in this sort of discussion is that there is an underlying contradiction in the attitudes that are socially acceptable: It is "her body", but if a child is born it is also his child — if she wants it to be. Think about that and it leads to some uncomfortable problems, most of which aren't solvable, but it would be good if women at least recognized how ****ty the guys' position is.

Edit: I think the picture changed while I was typing that. Red-legged partridge is really clear now.

And this one, TL spotted as we were driving somewhere in the Speyside region iirc.

I was an adopted kid!

Yup, we have them in the fields near us, although unlike the pheasants which stick to the edges, stand out a lot, are bigger, and have a tendency to stand still if you come close before rocketing up into the air very noisily, the partridges stay in the middle of the field and run away the second you come in their direction, so it's much harder to get a good look at them/work out exactly what they are. I've seen them in the hedgerow up close maybe 3 times in 4 years.

Hopefully by morning they'll be enough snow to have some fun, provided I can drag my friends outside. It's ok for me because I can just hop about. Silly humans and their silly weak legs.

Ooh there's a couple of people outside trying to make a snowman. It's a pretty weak effort, but it makes me think there's just about enough snow for for a solid snowball fight.

i think we probably need some more snow overnight to really be able to make the most of the snow. And there are rumours it might rain.

there's a professional race event. (they do the 200 km in ~6.5 hours?) and a tour edition for amateurs looking to complete the event. Not everyone can participate, ice can't handle it. like a 15.000 max.

here's a classic video of the '63 edition, the hardest one (150 or so finished out of 10.000 i believe)

correction: i poked my nose out and there's already enough for fun, with more falling.

It doesn't compare with last year, when there was probably getting on for a foot fell near us in a morning

As I said, the problems are probably unsolvable, in practice. But one possibility: If a couple is married, the two of them have equal say in critical decisions regarding pregnancy (meaning, basically, whether to abort). If they are not married, then the pregnancy, and any resulting child, are the woman's alone, in all senses.

How cute - plane as well as dog. Meg looks pretty calm considering it's probably her first time in a plane. Are the dogs crated or buckled in? Some of them go crazy just being in a car, I can't imagine them being loose in a plane.

And yeah, it's great that you volunteer like this. I took some flying lessons and it was a lot of fun, but I wasn't into it enough to continue. If I'd gotten my license, I'd have wanted to do something like that.

So what happens if a married couple disagree, they abort half the baby? Flip a coin?

Lets please not discuss abortion in the pub. it's like in the top 3 things never to talk about bc it won't end well

I often tear up at the end of movies, not even sad or particularly inspiring movies, and always without meaning to. I often look around and be like "I hope no one is seeing that my eyes are watering and deduces that I'm in anyway sad about the stupid ending to the movie"

Anarchist,

Nope

I can beat the staff here at checkers and any argument they try to engage me in.

Also I can sleep like 14+ hours per day.
