Interesting you lived in Montreal. And Cleveland.

People from Cleveland get very defensive about their city.

i barely lived in those places. only for a summer really.

i kinda loved cleveland. i had a great time there. i can def understand its horrific reputation though

the people there are not the most... woke people

I think it's one of the top theater cities in usa. Maybe just musicals?

I may have made that up.

Can we talk about Bangor??
06-03-2021 , 10:56 PM
My knowledge of Bangor is limited to it was the nearest “major” airport to fly into if you didn’t want to fly directly to the island for our “life event”, and people were..... “upset”
06-03-2021 , 10:58 PM
I assumed bangor was in Asia somewhere but looks like I was way off.

I worked in Oakland, ME a few summers at a sports camp & we'd go to the Bangor State Fair every year. I think that's what it was called?
06-03-2021 , 11:05 PM
What sport? Or just sports in general?
06-03-2021 , 11:06 PM
bangor is great! population ~30k really, really kind people. and i love the culture of not judging a person by their career or money. yeah, they are kinda racist lol *sigh* but i think that's only because only white people live there. so they are just really ignorant in terms of actually experiencing other cultures.

i visited my friend in new hampshire a couple of times too. really similar vibe. just really kind white people. working class. salt of the earth. and both really beautiful foresty places.

lol at "major airport" it's so rinky dink. i think a lot of military planes stop there from europe.

i did cause a bit of a stir at the bangor casino lol playing their 1/2 game. i was very aggressive lol

oh, and a cool thing about bangor is supposedly they were really down with helping the underground railroad and helping runaway slaves. but it's a little suspicious there is no black population there. i mean if they really were helpful, seems like black people would have stayed there.

A player at work told me about a guy who robbed a player in a casino parking lot in Florida. The cops arrived and gave chase and the robber fled into the woods and jumped into a creek

Spoiler:
only to be killed by an alligator

It was a general sports camp. I coached basketball mostly, with some European handball mixed in.

We had some really good athletes. But yeah, now kids specialize much more.

GOAT sport. Kind of a mix of soccer, lacrosse & basketball where you try to throw the ball into a goal.
06-03-2021 , 11:12 PM
my ex turned down a pro contract to play handball

i don't remember exactly how to play, but it was fun to watch in the olympics. it's a big deal in europe.
06-03-2021 , 11:13 PM

Yeah, usually it's just called team handball. Not sure if my camp was just weird for calling it European or if it's just what they came it in the 90s.

Naw, just high school. I'm 6'3 & used to be an excellent shooter, but not nearly athletic enough to be a serious player.

Baseball was actually my best high school sport. Could have probably played in college, but only at a small school & I didn't feel like going to a small school.

What was in Cleveland, filthy?
06-03-2021 , 11:19 PM
Is "European handball" the same as handball (as in that sport that's in the Olympics)?

did you have good 3 point stats? freethrow %?

baseball was my best too, probably. it was def what i was most serious about. i wanted to be pro, and had a tiny chance. my stats in high school were absurd, but i was in a really easy league. i was probably too small to be pro though. 5'8" and really skinny

my friend that i was kind of like brothers with has family there. so i'd go there all the time. i had a job bagging groceries in euclid ohio for $3.80 an hour. the security guard got $3.40 an hour.

girls there were crazy about me for some reason. way more than at home. i guess they thought i was exotic or something lol. idk, but it was great! woo hoo!

one of the dates i went on, we went to see karate kid III

and i think women's team handball is my favorite sport in the olympics.

Probably 40% 3s & 70% free throws? I didn't shoot many free throws lol. Speaking of skinny, I was like 135 lbs in HS.

What position did you play? Mostly 1B for me with some pitching.

After reviewing the handball rules, I think the main differences are we played outside & we had a 3 dribble limit.

i think generally i prefer women's sports. and i think it's because women's sports has a more supportive vibe, like comradery and celebratory of great achievements.

and i think the vibe in men's sports is more like "f*ck you". it's more hostile. or maybe that's just my imagination
