I'm lucky, I suppose, that drink has never appealed to me as a stress management tool. Food, on the other hand...

In all seriousness, though, I have found POG to be an important tool for me to manage stress. I probably took to it so strongly last year because of issues with my job at the time. Now that I have a new job, I'm still strongly into POG, but now it's because of the addiction that developed after over-using. At least this addiction won't affect my mental or physical health adversely.

I would recommend this to xander, but he's already there. More games might just add to his stress levels. Just know that we are all behind you, Mr. biscuits.

im the same way. alcohol doesn't help me all that much, but food! omg! i went from 145 to 185. had to work hard to lose it.

not sure if pog is a positive or negative in my life. i know i like you all, and you make me laugh and all that. BUT all the time i spend here could probably be used in better ways. but quitting pog won't make me do those things. i'll just procrastinate some other way

speaking of pipe water. my flatmate installed a water filter. he says it's a really good, expensive one. i know pipe water goes into it. and our unfiltered tap water is so nasty i get sick from drinking it. i've been drinking the filtered water for a couple days and it tastes great, and i haven't got sick. but still scared of the pipe water

I must say that this sort of thing astonishes me. I haven't lived anywhere that I couldn't or shouldn't drink the water that flows into my house. This shouldn't happen in a "first world" city. Except for temporary issues like natural disasters, of course.

The SoCal water is fine. I call bs on Filthy getting sick drinking it.

mark is kinda right. i've never seen any big news stories about people getting sick from the water. it's probably psychosomatic on my part. but my stomach hurts every time i drink it. that's what i mean by "get sick"

More serious answer: I've had short periods in my life when I found myself holding on for a beer or two at the end of the day, and it was a beer (or 2) more nights than not - it was definitely a response to short term pressure and I could see how it could become habit forming if given the chance.

I think that having recognised it is probably half the battle - try to make the decision to have a dry evening some evenings, and go from there. And hopefully your life will straighten itself up and the need will fall away.

I remember going to stay with a girl one time when I was at uni, and her parents both hated their jobs pretty hard and had to have a massive gin the moment they got in from work, pretty much every night. That's what you want to avoid.
