i go clothes shopping like once every 10 or 15 years. and i'll buy like one or two changes of clothes. i buy socks and underwear fairly often though. but i spend next to nothing on clothes compared to most people

Speaking of prices vs. value:

Do you sometimes believe that something is automatically "better" just because it is priced higher then something else of similar quality?

no, i think places like zara and h&m are the tits

always drove me crazy when my mom bragged about the sale prices. "i got blah blah blah for $100, but it was marked down from $300!"

Not really, I believe in name brands more than I do prices. But I'll almost always buy the cheaper brand if I can.

But there are some rare things that I refuse to budge on, like Heniz ketchup. But only Canadian Heinz. In usa, I'll eat aylmers or any ketchup because they all suck equally.

Probably has better quality material the more expensive it is, but generally it doesn't look any better and often is just downright ugly.

having nice clothes is kind of like having magic items in dungeons and dragons. my $100 shirt gives me +1 charisma.

but yeah obviously the 1k shirts are out of control

My designer burlap sacks will take me anywhere.

let's not brag about dressing like bums here

my max t-shirt price is like $45 or something. most i've spent on a button down shirt like $160. jeans maybe $200. shoes also around $200.

but i also buy a lot of cheap filler clothes at zara and whatnot so it balances out.

I make this but also include ham which I cut into small rectangles and lightly grill.

I'm insanely cheap but I value the way I look. If its over $5, I make someone else buy it for me.

it depends which price level you're looking at. if you're comparing a $20 shirt to a $150 shirt, the $150 shirt is almost always going to curbstomp. $150 shirt to $1000 shirt, things begin to become dubious.

fwiw the gucci store is the best. they sell a rubber dog ball with a gucci logo for 50 euros. 50 ****ing euros for a rubber ball!
06-20-2012 , 11:36 PM
My dog would destroy that ball in seconds not minutes.

less horrendous value: 50 euros for ice trays that make cubes in the shape of the gucci logo

anyway, this stuff is all i need to see for definitive proof that uber expensive clothing is mostly just hype. people way overpay for brand name **** even if it obviously doesn't come with quality attached.

never buy the second most expensive item

This is pretty good advice.

2nd most expensive is either a poorer version of the most expensive, or an overpriced version of one of the 3rd-6th or 7th items.
