You are right but your also underestimating how ingrained the Montreal Canadiens have been in my life. I've been loving them since I was 4 years old. One of my step dad's most treasured items is the Montreal Canadiens sign I made him in shop class.
My most prized possession in the world are the Montreal Canadiens memorabelia that my daughter gave me for Christmas 3 years ago. The Montreal Canadiens breed passion like no other sport team in North America. There is a course at the University of Montreal that studies them as a religion in the province of Quebec.
If you go to my dad's house, its covered in Montreal Canadien's memorabilia, same thing with both of my sister's houses. Its a tie that binds our family together.
To expand on how important hockey is. From the time I was 4 until 16, I literally played hockey for hours every single day of my life. In the summertime, we'd play street hockey after school, everybody on our street, even if we didn't get along or hang out in school, we'd still play street hockey together. In the winter times, when I wasn't playing organized hockey, I was playing at the frozen rink on the corner from after school until 10 pm when I had to come home to bed.
When I was 4, I wasn't allowed to go out and play hockey unless I ate all my vegetables.
