kokiri!!!!

that trailer is for a horror movie about a part goat, part human baby. and it's not a comedy.
07-27-2021 , 03:42 PM
not with that attitude

yeah i did gymnastics for a bit, and the culture was horrible. but doing the tricks felt like magic.

so simone biles, the greatest female gymnast ever, has pulled herself out of the team competition to protect her health. i saw on twitter that people were comparing that to kerri strugg's famous vault in 1996 when she did the vault despite being injured and had to land on one leg.

but i was really pleased to see that people were saying how much better simone biles' choice is to protect her health! and how awful it is to make a teen girl injure herself for our viewing pleasure.

really nice to see changes like that in our culture

i dont think i've heard brits say "pal". is that a common thing?

it's not common here in usa. people would usually say "friend, buddy, girl/boy"

some woke kids these days are starting to say comrade, which i love! lol... but that's rare

Not only did Biles pull out for her health, it seems it's a mental issue more than a physical one. I cringe imagining what people will say to and about her because of that, but it's great to see that (at least some) athletes can get support to look after themselves in that way. Hopefully her team (officials, not athletes) will stand behind her 100%

i forgot her name, but the japanese tennis star has pulled out of matches because of mental health, and she got a lot of flack, but also tons of support. and i see a lot of people championing self care for mental health reasons

Mate is the most common, then I think pal.

Both of which are often used at the start of fights.

It's all about the tone

Buddy increasingly popular in London too

is brit kid's slang much different than old's slang?

like in usa kids are saying all kinds of crazy ass ****. im too old to know what it is though
07-27-2021 , 05:16 PM
but yeah, it's all about context. "boy" isn't so much a racist term these days. but it was from like 1900s to maybe like 10-20 years ago. white people would call black men "boy" in a racist way.

but people of all colors would say "that's my boy" and it's a term of endearment.

i wondered about the brit show "top boy", a little like a version of the wire. and "top boy" i think means like the boss of the ghetto. but i wondered if the "boy" part of the title comes from racist american language of the 19th and 20th century

So much different. At work today we were chatting about it being generational more than age. 23yr old gen z is further apart from 28yr old millennial than a 40yr old millennial.

Olds different to youngs, North different to South, Midlands different to west, Manchester different to Liverpool.

It's all different our pet (yorkshire right there.)

Context and tone. "That's my boy" can be so creepy or so endearing. Words on their own are never enough.

Top boy is a great show though, but, the writer is being accused of sexual assault I think and I don't think American language from the 19th century would make it to 21st century UK ghetto.
It's probably from the general attitude of olds calling youngs "boy" derogatorily and youngsters reclaiming it

Reading about it sounded like she experienced vertigo while performing which isn't really a mental issue as people would mean the word.
07-27-2021 , 06:16 PM
even if it was experiencing vertigo, that can be brought on by stress, anxiety, depression, etc..

i'm just like simone biles! when i compete(in poker) i have to keep a careful eye on my mental health or will lose badly. me and biles are basically the same

i mean she was asked on live television about being sexually assualted, just the night before. and the pressure of the olympics.
07-27-2021 , 06:27 PM
I've had a couple times where it's tough to breath in some high pressure hand. Or seems to be. Never been great with pressure, though.
07-27-2021 , 06:57 PM
i used to thrive on high pressure situations in sports. but regular life pressure is different. i get panicky if someone calls me lol
