Happy 4th of July!

I need a sanity check.

I'm driving the minivan with my 3 kids down a road with a 35 mph speed limit (I'm going 40). A guy is walking perpendicular to the street towards a crosswalk. To stop for him, I would either have to stop short or slam on my breaks. So I didn't stop. He slowed his walking pace a bit, so he didn't walk into my moving car.

He was outraged. In my rearview mirror, I could see him flailing his arms in disgust while he stared me down.

Should I have acted differently?

That American needs to spend some time traveling in a third world country to get some perspective.

you are in a car. you sit on your lazy ass doing nothing. the car does all the work. you're going at speeds our ancestors could only dream of. you're polluting the earth. you're contributing to oil wars.

cars should always yield to pedestrians. and drivers should be grateful

I would probably have a similar reaction to the guy if I was in a bad mood or I'd just flair my arms internally if I wasn't in a bad mood.

Law here is that you have to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks. So it's a guessing game as to whether the guy will reach the crosswalk before you are past.

as i was sitting down at the poker table yesterday, 4th of july, there was a scary looking man in a marines hat. he was saying angrily "... communist bastards not celebrating this holiday!" i just caught the tail end.

i couldn't help myself. i said "i'm a communist bastard"

the marine actually didn't rise to my bait. another player was totally trying to instigate **** between us too. but neither of us went after the one too hard directly.

he was seriously a scary dude. at one point he moved to the sit next to me, and i was a little scared.

i felt bad for him. he was not the sharpest tool in the shed. and he didn't seem like he had a lot of money. he would buy in for the minimum(500) and get stacked. happened 3 times. and he was distraught by the treatment he was getting on july 4th.... i mean people not respecting him or the holiday.

he probably thought he was doing a good, noble thing joining the military.

and another player at the table who was a young ahole, happened to be a captain in the french air force and was talking about how he could order him around if he felt like it. it was messed up.

Doesn't the game look amazing on an ipad? My wife plays it on her ipad and it crushes the phone experience. There are tons of little graphic details that you miss on a phone.

Pre-bitcoin, US online casinos/sportsbooks would pay me in Canadian checks. Those would take 3-4 weeks to process and clear.

I haven't seen my students' scores, but they have. I've heard from 3 of them about how they either made me proud or were disappointed.

I've been teaching AP Stats for 4 years now. Sadly, year #1 had the best results. This year's scores should be close to the best for me. Last year, they had the most horrid, unimaginably bad scores to the point I feel good about this year.
