The travel agent I use doesn't charge me extra. She gets paid a commission by the service provider, i.e. the airline, hotel, tour provider, car rental. I research trips before I call her and the cost is the same if I book direct or through her. The value I get from using her with what happened with this trip would make me want to use her even if it cost more.

I've noticed that Travel Agents will be able to find airline deals for unique situations better than the websites - Especially when searching consolidators. An example of this is if you are looking for 1st or Business class seats and you can't use miles, a travel agent will often beat deals on the web.

Given the above, I still use websites for 99% of my flying.

For hotels, I never use a travel agent. You leave too much money on the table. e.g. I use a website like Hotel Storm, they will rebate me $50 a night in Amazon gift cards. Makes that $120/night Hampton Inn room about the same price as the low end guys.

Kickbacks, ldo.

In ye olden days, people did use travel agents for every trip.

This is what we do too, excepting brands where we have status. Then we just book direct.

im not sure how to handle this situation...

my roommate's car brokedown. he asked if he could use mine for emergencies while i was gone. i said sure. he's always been super helpful to me. so a few days later i text him that i'm coming home early. he accidentally texts me back. he meant to send the text to his ex gf, our ex roommate, who just moved out. he tells her to bring the car back because i'm coming home early.

i was a little worried he might let her use my car because she just totaled her own a couple weeks ago.

she let me use her car tons and tons, but i paid her 50 cents a mile for it, about $300 a month.

Send them a bill for $50 dollars a mile with some insane total. Thats what you charge for non-emergencies. (They should have asked!) Every time they refer to it as revenge, correct them by saying you are "lowering their liars equity".

yeah, they should have asked. but they have been really good to me. and i do have to live with the guy

Well then maybe just do something normal like acknowledge how nice they've been and you don't want to have any discord, but you know what happened and would just prefer they be honest with you. Then let it go.

Or just do nothing. Sometimes I just do nothing. <shrug>

The normal one is so boring though

Most of the times you should do nothing but then sometimes you should do something. Finding this balance is difficult.
