That was me with my 8 year old daughter in the local package store last night.

I really do try to instill the idea that there is no shame in asking for help; especially when the person you asking is far more knowledgeable on whatever topic.

I follow it up by telling them that people are good, and if you seem genuine, they will drop whatever they're doing to help another person.

Filthy, you absolutely could've asked the impatient lady behind you to assist or even help you out. Make something up about why you're having difficulty. IMO, being vulnerable is a great trait that probably would have made the impatient lady a sympathetic lady.

hmmmm..... maybe i should have asked her for help. idk. it was about 100 degrees. she was locked in her ~60k car, and had perpetual ***** face. i was pretty shocked she was putting air in herself. i don't think she would have wanted to get out in the heat and help me. i think more likely she would have been more pissed that i didn't know what i was doing, and she'd have to wait longer because of my incompetence.

i would have had to knock on her window. she probably would have thought i was begging for money

i wonder how much of it is a race/class thing. white people usually judge me as a poor person of color. i think it often makes them standoffish.

However, last month for my birthday, my daughter did buy me the hardcover book for the Star Trek movie "Generations". (She got it at the library for 50 cents)
