I have worked in my current firm about 2 years as an auditor. Things are really falling apart recently. I started with 7 other people and there were 6 people that were year ahead of. I am only person left that is still in audit department. Our bosses do not get along and there is lot of uncertanty about future. Wage wise they have been lowball as possible. Hours have been long and did not get any kind of compensation for overtime in last season. In theory it is possible to get extra vacation for overtime, but it takes lot of arguing. Positive thing is that we have lot of different clients from both public and private sector and in some engagements I have role where I can lead other people and I am not only assistant. Also it is possible to have different interesting tasks (like being invonvled in training and recruitment and writing articles) inside my department. Last season was very exhausting and I even had to sick leave bc I had worked too much.
That other job would be in smaller firm. They are around 10th in Estonia and quite small in the world. Wage would be same as in current place, but I should have small jump coming soon so I would lose little bit. As I understand I should have much less clients and less overtime. Negative thing is that I would be assistant and I would get all the ****ty tasks and most of it would be probably similar to stuff that I have done during last 2 years. I need another year of experience before I can take CPA exams and it prolly takes at least a year to get these exams done. My role prolly would not change much before I get CPA licence and even then I would prolly work in small teas.
Taking job at that smaller firm seems like a reasonable option, but I just do not feel any kind of excitment. My current firm is a total mess and I have no idea what is going to happen and they probably expect lot of hours from me and I do not feel rested at all and my vacation is over. CPA licence would def have some value in Estonia (I think that around 20-30 people get that licence each year).
I have also option to stay in my current firm and try to find something else. I have degree in accounting and I am also considering accountant position but it is possible that it would be even more boring, but I am also not sure if audit is what I really want to do.
So yeah. I really have not figure out what I want to do. Everyone else who has left my current seems to have **** together and lot of them seem to have interesting job in BIG-4 firms. I am just clicking buttons atm and I have no idea what I really want to do.
