The legend continues at 40+! He's still got it, once in a while anyway.

Not sure how accurate but if it is then it has to be pretty concerning

I think he's just causing and then taking advantage of minor pricing blips. Definitely disconcerting if you're a day-trader.

I am only person left that is still in audit department. Our bosses do not get along and there is lot of uncertanty about future. Wage wise they have been lowball as possible. Hours have been long and did not get any kind of compensation for overtime in last season. In theory it is possible to get extra vacation for overtime, but it takes lot of arguing. Positive thing is that we have lot of different clients from both public and private sector and in some engagements I have role where I can lead other people and I am not only assistant. Also it is possible to have different interesting tasks (like being invonvled in training and recruitment and writing articles) inside my department. Last season was very exhausting and I even had to sick leave bc I had worked too much.

That other job would be in smaller firm. They are around 10th in Estonia and quite small in the world. Wage would be same as in current place, but I should have small jump coming soon so I would lose little bit. As I understand I should have much less clients and less overtime. Negative thing is that I would be assistant and I would get all the ****ty tasks and most of it would be probably similar to stuff that I have done during last 2 years. I need another year of experience before I can take CPA exams and it prolly takes at least a year to get these exams done. My role prolly would not change much before I get CPA licence and even then I would prolly work in small teas.

Taking job at that smaller firm seems like a reasonable option, but I just do not feel any kind of excitment. My current firm is a total mess and I have no idea what is going to happen and they probably expect lot of hours from me and I do not feel rested at all and my vacation is over. CPA licence would def have some value in Estonia (I think that around 20-30 people get that licence each year).

I have also option to stay in my current firm and try to find something else. I have degree in accounting and I am also considering accountant position but it is possible that it would be even more boring, but I am also not sure if audit is what I really want to do.

So yeah. I really have not figure out what I want to do. Everyone else who has left my current seems to have **** together and lot of them seem to have interesting job in BIG-4 firms. I am just clicking buttons atm and I have no idea what I really want to do.

Getting a decent job offer from somewhere else gives you a lot of bargaining power in your current job. Unless they don't want you to stay, in which case eff them.

Getting a solid professional qualification (lawyer, auditor, etc) often counts for more than you might think, even outside that profession.

Most of my friends aren't doing the jobs they did straight out of uni, many aren't doing even closely related ones.

It's worth finding something you enjoy and find fulfilling if you can, but whilst you're not sure what that is, there's value in sticking it out in auditing at least until you qualify. That said I'd say leaving a toxic environment even in a parallel move should be a high priority.

Do whatever you think is best for you, but based on this paragraph I'd be advising you to seriously consider G-ing TFO at the first reasonable opportunity.

In California you can be evicted for refusing to have sex with your landlord. They can be charged with sexual harassment, but you still have to leave.
08-08-2017 , 01:38 PM
i'm not sure about that, but it really is ridiculous how the landlords leech money off people who can't afford to buy homes, and then kick them out willy nilly for no other reason than because someone else will give the landlord even more money

landlords are parasitic scum

i have several horror stories about family and friends and me losing our homes to greed

On a related note I'm trying to get into the slum Lord business

100k plus my soul

So less than $114k.

i have good friends who are parasitic landlord scum. i mean i see the appeal. spend a bunch of money, buy a home, or several homes, rent them out to people who can't afford to buy, make money on the rent while you watch tv, then sell the home(s) for more than you paid.

i'll never forget one time my rich friend took me with him when he was looking at homes. this was like 20 years ago, we went to a seacliff home that was 5 million(now probably about 20 million). i mean it was amazing, home for the mega rich, maybe 8 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, ridiculous views yada yada.

and it occurred to me that i was paying $400 a month to live in a hovel, when if i had bought this home a few years ago, i would have MADE money to live there! what a deal! how they **** am i PAYING to live in a total ****pile, when whoever lives in this dream mansion is GETTING paid to live in it?!?!?! what the ****?!

btw, 1% property tax on a 20 million dollar home in SF is 200k a year
08-08-2017 , 02:29 PM
Only 1% property tax? Nice deal. In my area it's 1.1% and in some new developments it's 2%.

And $400/month rent for a room in a house sounds like a steal. Not just in SF but many areas of the US.

the 400 was 20 years ago

and not sure what property tax is actually. it was 1% a while ago. sorry my info is out of date.

"nice deal" would be for the rich you mean. it's not a nice deal for the public schools who rely on that tax to educate and feed the kids.

Congrats Reno

My favorite part of the story was when filthy taught us that 1% of $20M is $200K.
08-08-2017 , 03:42 PM
It's currently 1.1792% I believe. It's 1% plus any other additions that get voted in.

Property is theft

You're not supposed to say slumlord anymore, it's considered implicitly anti-Semitic.

Clicking buttons is how I ended up getting a job with a catalog company. Seems like a smart business to be getting into...
