Visiting my parents over Christmas, there in my old bedroom, I was struck by how huge Clavell's Noble House is, just massive. And I was shocked to realize that a person who looked and acted a lot like me once had the attention span and energy necessary for a casual reading project like that. And allegedly for pleasure too, it's not like it was required for college or something!
I remember being entertained by it, great complicated story, but somewhat disgruntled by the inconclusive ending. And I also remember that this was exactly like my reaction to Shogun a few years before. I had some ideas about tackling Taipan but eh, fool me twice...King Rat was good but a completely different animal. Btw they made an interesting movie of that with wacky George Segal, lol interesting casting but it worked.
imo ending of shogun sucked. on my rereads, I'd read just like the first two thirds of the book, which are great! like seriously a top notch fun adventure read. and just quit at the point where the book gets meh
idk if I mentioned this itt, but clavell was a pow in japan when he was 20 years old
Haha, it’s Buc-ee’s in Sevierville. 120 pumps. Completely ridiculous. I didn’t take a pic of the charging stations for Mark, but there were plenty of those as well.
Sheetz is one of two things I miss about being in Hershey. Thornton’s is making a pretty big expansion in Chicagoland, but I have yet to check it out for comparison.
i think they look kinda cool... but it's whatever. looks are totally subjective. but seems pretty objectively obvious to me that they are terrible cars, and that elon is a scammer and a terrible person, objectively
i've seen a few in the wild, but they're probably more common in LA
I was tracking this reverse osmosis filter on camelcamelcamel forever... This morning, it finally hit the 50% off sales price of $63. If you ever need distilled water, this is the guy!
