How is a starter different than an appetizers? Examples please.

An appetiser is a bite size thing or "hors d'oeuvre". Something you could pick off a platter. A deep fried brie triangle or bellinis

A starter is like a small self contained dish made of multiple parts or requiring effort to eat. Soup; scallop dishes; rarebit

In uk everyone got like starter and main when we went out. They ain't for sharing (or basically full meals) like usa #1

In what order are they eaten? Soup then canapés, if soup is a starter? At a mingling party, I could see appetizers being eaten while guests walk around, then get the starter when they sit down. What about at a restaurant? Do they become synonymous, then?

i went to a famous restaurant(chez panisse) and the dessert was just fruit. like picked from a tree. iirc it was a plum and a peach. no slicing or sauce or anything. just on a plate. and it literally the best dessert i ever had

I've mentioned Microsoft Flight simulator in the past but it continues to blow me away. I think it's incorrectly named. A more accurate name would be a 'go explore and sight-see the world' simulator.

A couple weeks ago I was flying through the Pyrenees to an airstrip on a mountain top. To get a better idea how to approach the landing I found a youtube video of an actual pilot landing at the strip. It looks virtually the same as in the simulator. I highly recommend this program to anyone that enjoys exploring the world. Great value for $60!
