Contact lens solution is a massive ripoff. The good stuff runs about $17 for a two pack of decent sized bottles. Every few weeks lately though the manufacturer throws out a $6 off coupon and Walgreens tacks on a $4 off coupon, plus they've been running a lot of sales lately. I think I stacked a 20% off daily deal with the $10 in coupons, so it ended up being like $5 something so I bought another two pack yesterday.

I've already got a couple two packs in the cabinet from prior sales. Good deal to stock up when it's this cheap or dumb to have that much in reserve? Pretty sure I'll use it, not likely to give up the contacts for at least 10-15 years. It just takes a while to use it up.

pros:

- you're ready for the apocalypse, as far as contact solution goes

- you don't have to go to the store to pick any up for a while

- 70% savings


cons:

clutter

opportunity cost. the 70% savings, invested in crypto will probably 100x

If (as an example) you use it in less than 3y you're CAGR is a risk free 20% annually.
Seems like you should be buying as much as you can hold in your house.

I am moving. In two weeks. To a HOUSE. With three bedrooms, a two car garage, and an eat in kitchen and an office for working from home equipped with Google Fiber.

I will have to buy a snow shovel. I've never owned one. Apartments do all that kind of stuff for you.

It's not as bad as people make it out to be as long as you're either:
1) Willing to DIY for a bunch of common repairs
2) Are willing to pay someone slightly above "reasonable" to just not have to worry about it
3) Have friends / family who are good at stuff and live in the area.


You strike me as a clean person, so you're probably set there. But I can't recommend cleaning serves enough. If you're doing well enough for your self that you have an extra $100 - $200 you could put towards it every month, it's really nice.

Actually I am a person that hires cleaning done because I don't enjoy it and I'm not particularly good at it but I appreciate a clean living area.

Luckbox, who is ridiculously good at cleaning was obscurely irritated when I refused to let the woman who cleans my place go when he moved in, but I'm not planning to live with him forever, and my relationship with her takes precedence.

I'd much rather mow a lawn or shovel some snow than scrub a toilet or wipe down an oven.

scrubbing my own toilet isn't bad at all. at first i felt gross about it. but now i think it's just psychological. it's whatever. just wash your hands after and you're all good.

That's not what I dislike. It's hard to explain. But the person who scrubs my toilet is worth her weight in gold.

Having too many rooms increases cleaning a lot. As far as house stuff I've mostly learned what I'm capable of doing and what I'll just make worse by trying.

If you're going to live without furniture or a TV or really anything, except a bed, shouldn't you look into just renting a storage building and living there? You could move every few months to take advantage of those "first month free" deals. It might even come out cheaper to just rent a uhaul every now and then as I think you get a free month of storage with a truck rental.

If science could hurry up and figure out anti-gravity technology we could all like in upgraded dome tent-like structures, park them anywhere and move at the push of a button.
