Someone linked me the thread as they know this is something I've posted about on FB and other spots before
I explained it wasn't fake, I had friends die in Columbine.
Dustin posted a video of my friends body (in his defense - he did not know it was my friend at the time, though he did know I had friends and was close to Columbine. This is an important point, as if he knew it was her body it would have been completely horrific)
He said things with Columbine didn't feel right, asked me to watch the video repeatedly
Basically ended up saying well he can't contradict my posts about knowing people that are dead, but still isn't sure it was real
He did apologize and say if I wanted him banned over it he'd eat the ban

-

He dealt with it mostly fine after the interaction -- apologizing and offering to be banned, but if I'm honest I probably had trouble fully accepting the apology, and it definitely colored some of our later conversations (me telling him he's not empathetic, some of it had to do with masks discussion, but some of it had must have had to do with the lack of empathy involved of asking someone who went through trauma to watch videos of said trauma)

That actually sounds pretty reasonable as Luckbox goes

Thanks, though not looking for that.

Just agree with the point that the truther stuff is actually dangerous and causes harm. Kelhus just seemed like an idiot (though I support banning perma banned people)

he also said something like if you ran a ww simulator a million times, the optimal playstyle would be pyramidscheme

Meanwhile Trump just went on an unhinged rant about Howard Zinn and claims he is going to sign an executive order to establish a US ministry of truth

I have never understood the need for a Politics thread in a Puzzles and Games forum. I am interested in politics, but the fact that the thread is supposed to be a place for puzzlers and gamers to talk politics makes about as much sense as having a Politics thread in a quilting forum or woodworking forum.

What is the value of the political positions of people who also happen to enjoy puzzles and games? I mean that as a serious question. What is the raison d'etre for the thread?

I always thought its purpose was to keep politics out of the pub

As an educator, and follower of the Zinn Project, this depresses me greatly.

For me it's just a place to talk about politics with people I know and like.

I'm not particularly interested in debating internet randoms about politics. I'd much rather fight with Birdman10687 or Luckbox Inc than 2plus2posterXYZBBQ

I like that you can talk more abstract politics. I post more train of thought than having discussions, though.

And if we could not rehash any aspect of the Newtown and Columbine shootings that would be greatly appreciated.

I was not the mod when the major discussions happened and the thread generally agreed after that to make that a banned topic of conversation in this thread.

There is no really good reason. Having said that, POGgers form a community, with varying degrees of "friendship" between the people. IRL I know people who enjoy talking politics with their friends. They enjoy exchanging ideas and understanding different points of view, and some enjoy the give and take of spirited disagreement. This all being done honestly and honourably, and with no malice. In this context, I can see someone starting a discussion thread within their community.

Having said that, I have my doubts about that being the case here.

Yes, and some do not enjoy this.

This thread is the result (a containment thread).

And for what it's worth, I have no vested interest in whether this thread exists or not nor any kind of power-hungry desire to be an authoritarian dictator.

The Kelhus banning today was my first concrete action in my roughly year and a half as moderator.

Yeah, I don't care that it exists. I post in it sometimes. Was more interested in why it exists. How it came to be needed/wanted. That helps explain it, Sun Tzu.

This would not be the first website/forum/thread to either ban politarding in a thread, or create a thread just for politics to enable other threads to be poli free.
