The whole "nothing else has worked so we have to do this" argument is super bad. It is infected by the "perfect is the enemy of the good" phenomenon, where we do have police fired, sued, etc in situations where they would not necessarily be. It suggests that violence would/might be effective when it demonstrably has not been. It also wrongly supposes that everything else has in fact been tried.
Well, no, not EVERYTHING has been tried because I as a private citizen do not have the ability to force my vision of what true reform would look like on our legislatures, our courts, or our police.
Could things other than violence in the streets be effective? Yes but only if we can infuse our elected officials with the will to tackle the problem. And they have not done so as the killing has only gotten worse and more and more mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters have watched their loved ones come home in bags.
We can't even vote them out in a lot of places thanks to gerrymandering, not to mention other kinds of corruption and people who claim to be "pro-life" being willing to vote based upon fetuses but not upon the outright butchering of people who are living and walking around.
What do YOU suggest an extremely large but still a minority of people who simply can not STAND to watch more civilians get gunned down by people we literally pay with our taxes to protect us do?
