The idea of a culture dominated by guilt, a sense of inadequacy and self-loathing is the dubious part, seems like projecting the culture of a subset of Americans onto the rest of the capitalist world.
are you saying that basically all of america is a sub set that feels this way, or that there is a sub set within america that feels this way?
maybe it's just my bubble, but it seems like most people feel this way, not that they dwell on it all the time. but if they stop and think about it, then they feel this way.
most people work a job they don't enjoy, and for far less pay than they see others getting... cuz we see celebs etc...
also basically all workers are exploited, and sense it on some level. i mean the bosses are paying workers less than the workers produce so the bosses can keep a % for themselves.
the whole industry of advertising is to make us feel inadequate, and we are bombarded with more ads every day than we can even count
also feels bad to be contributing to the destruction of the planet, which we all are.
