To me progress is not necessarily technological. I think some balance between advanced medicine and progressive labor forces. I envision progress toward a future where the needs of society are met by the predictable and most minimal labor of the people, so there is free time for culture and community. I think agrarian lifestyles are more ethical, desirable, and through interdependence lend themself more toward communal and collective organization. I agree Filthy, isolation and lack of community is horrid, I don’t attribute it to progress but to capitalism’s insidious endeavor for profit, which is often called “progress” but is so far removed from the premise of progress.
Side note: been watching Star Trek Picard and I’m pretty disappointed with how they’ve abandoned the socialist utopia hinted at in TNG that drew me in as a child in favor of a more super-tech capitalist dystopia rooted in hierarchical military social political structures
