also I don't think the 5th Am (self-incrimination protection) applies to already-activated body cameras, even without a carve-out for color-of-law conduct, but I'm not going to do the whole analysis right now

Congress tried to do something about it, passing 42 usc 1983, but then the Court stepped in and wrote "qualified immunity" into the law

there's pending legislation right now to remove qualified immunity

imo the department should eat the lion's share of the penalties

the individual cops usually don't have a whole lot on their own, and I'm not a big fan of incarceration as a long-term approach (in general, not just wrt police misconduct)

my druthers include a federalized licensing standard for policing, with suspension/revocation implications for misconduct, in addition to punitive fines and mandatory volunteer work with incarceration to result as a stick for willful noncompliance

Having somebody who just shot someone be "off duty" and not answering calls of cats stuck in trees etc seems good.

Diminished rights is sorta fine but seemingly theoretical and not practically applicable to this situation.

If their supposed to have them on at all times then whatever. Having them off when they aren't actively doing police stuff seems fine, who cares.

Also there's tons of nonsense laws with "jailtime of up to two years" that just get ignored.

The Biden administration has LITERALLY referenced their holding facilities in media interviews. If you are demanding "evidence" you're not paying attention.

And the truth is, there is NO humane way to detain families. Either you lock up the kids and their parents together, or you separate them. NEITHER should be happening in our society.

i saw on twitter a lithuanian(american) fighter is fighting a chinese fighther. and the lithuanian fighter said she hates communism, and that is gonna motivate her to beat the chinese fighter.

i don't hold it *too much* against the lithuanian fighter because she is young, and a fighter. so i don't look to her for political leadership lol... also sounds like her family had a real bad time with communist govt(but i wouldn't be surprised of capitalists were actually to blame for her trouble)

but i do want to see the chinese fighter beat the hell out of her
