I don’t know that much about her. Here is a neat quote by her that I got from a quick google search:

Quote:
America's future will be determined by the home and the school. The child becomes largely what he is taught; hence we must watch what we teach, and how we live.

you all seen the video of the cops running people over last night? it's pretty shocking, even if you expect awful behavior from cops.

i mean there were nation wide riots protesting police brutality. so think about the state of police that even after that, you still have cops who just plow their suv into a crowd of people and run them over.

this run over was worse than any of the cop run overs during the protests this summer

Looks like a nightmare.

Actions have consequences is one of those phrases people throw out that is kind of a deepity and kind of justification for being unjust. Like life's not fair. Also the market decides is sorta a phrase like that in that people use it to justify shopping at Walmart or chickfila rather than choosing not to.

I've seen a few posts about cops refusing to enforce mask laws but seems the more reasonable fear is selective enforcement against black men and liberal use to establish PC.

I don’t understand, though. Didn’t we just elect Joe Biden?

Yeah the same things come up with executive official like Governors.

I've personally never heard the "don't make the laws just enforce them" narrative very often.

But still lots of people seeming to love the idea of cops enforcing mask mandate seems like stick in bike meme.

I wonder how much correlation there is between how shitty a job is and how much interaction you have with other humans. Teacher is one that probably breaks the mold a bit but seems pretty high when you don't have that kind of authority.

In that vein there was some post about minimum wage going to 15$ and medics making the same as fast food workers. Most of the time the argument is, yeah medics should make even more than that, but I saw some people talking about how miserable working fast food is and how often they get food thrown at them. Reminded me of the fast food thread.

Will we ever get to where every job is viewed as valueableish?

So in the beginning of the lockdowns there was discussion between me and Birdman about them-- with me arguing that it was something being pushed by the elite/ruling class, and with Birdman arguing that the rich need to keep their gravy train going and were opposed to lockdowns, and naturally he cited Trump's actions in support of his position.
Well-- the numbers are in. They've been in for a little bit actually. Inequality is at an all time high, the poor are getting poorer, and the rich are getting richer. A google search of 'covid wealth inequality' will bring up dozens of articles supporting that. Here are a few though:
Inequality has been building for decades in the U.S., but experts say the pandemic 'ripped it open'
Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk among US billionaires getting richer during coronavirus pandemic
How billionaires saw their net worth increase by half a trillion dollars during the pandemic
And obviously it's important to distinguish between people like Jeff Bezos and people who run nail salons. Not all business owners are the same and they only become a monolith at the top. No doubt the overwhelming majority of business owners do want to see lockdowns ended-- but are those the ones with the power?

"No reason rich people can't sometimes disagree on what will make them richer" seems like the simplest explanation.

I assume you're referring to Trump's rhetoric. And perhaps. But talk is cheap and saying you disagree is pretty easy. And by opposing lockdowns he instantly gets all the liberals supporting them.

Here's a stat here looking at worldwide numbers and not just the US.
Meanwhile, the collective wealth of the world's billionaires rose $3.9 trillion between March and December 2020 to reach $11.95 trillion, the report calculated. The 10 richest men saw their net worth increase by $540 billion in the same period, Oxfam said.
Maybe it would have gone up even more had there not been a lockdown? Idk there actually. But they aren't hurting and these people have a lot more influence over policy than the people who own the Chinese restaurant at the corner plaza.

You mean the guy who was elected as a socialist mayor who-- in the height of the cold war-- was awarded a spot on The Today Show, who ended up becoming a US Senator and then a superstar amongst the left with a national following?
Sounds like a spook.

I mean yeah. Spooks aren't left either. But I didn't feel like using air quotes this time* like I normally do to avoid exactly this discussion.
*or are they just regular quotes still when used in writing?

Yeah the guy who built his entire political career outside of the two party establishment by pushing for exactly the type of redistribution you pined for earlier.

That guy must be a spook.
