Yeah whenever I get hit with a pie, it triggers PTSD from my boxing days.

If that's what happened, kids fault.
Kid's fault and also not kid's fault, because kids are frequently taught to be deferential to their authority figures even when they're right and the authority figure is wrong. They also don't know quite how far to push it. Authority figures in school also just assume that when there's a conflict that the kid is wrong, even when they're not. Unfortunately, this teaches kids deference to authority when we should be teaching them critical thinking instead.

If he'd shoved that pie in a cop's face there are a lot of people who would be applauding the cop who shot him and saying "well, what do you expect, he thought the banana creme was a high explosive, totally understandable"

And Kevin Johnson is a notorious sociopathic piece of ****, so it's kind of hard to feel any shred of sympathy for him

And his reaction was definitely a fair bit more severe than warranted; I'm pretty interested to know what the guy said to him

Probably "the freer the market, the freer the people"

That would set me off, too, tbh

Say you're chinese, and people mangle your name all the time, and/or basically refuse to even try. There's a degree of truth to it, but at the same time, anyone not a dickbag is going to make it clear that the fault is with the mangler, not the manglee, so it's not worth splitting out from the general category "being a dick is dickish"

There's many problems I personally have with schools, they try and guide kids to be a certain way and think in a certain way. Critical thinking is something everyone needs, but sadly the opposite happens.

I still find this pretty much impossible to imagine ever working in any fashion.

I was thinking something along the lines of calling his wife a **** and their charter school initiatives a poorly disguised naked grab for money and power that, like all of their machinations, is ultimately failing because of their own hubris, greed, and incompetence, but that would work too

This is a pretty good article on the state of our education system:

Just talking from personal experience

Teacher on first day: "Hello BlahBlahBlah, is that how you pronounce your name? Do you want to be called anything else?"

Me in school after the teacher says it wrong: "Yes..."

Most of the time my teachers would make sure and even ask if I wanted to be called something different.

Now if the teacher just said it however they wanted and didn't even ask the child, then obviously they are wrong.

No clarification necessary

My youth capitalism indoctrination camps taught me to parse nuance

If you hate Kevin Johnson go and watch him getting decked by Greg Anthony at the end of a NBA game

In Soviet Russia, nuance parses you.

So basically the same way capitalism functions now?
09-22-2016 , 05:01 PM
No, significantly worse.

Birdman, are you at all troubled by issues of freedom of speech and religion and general human rights in historic socialist countries?
09-22-2016 , 05:02 PM
I always get the feeling that kokiri is just one Birdman ****post away from deciding to no longer tolerate me.

Yes. But not as troubled as I am with the issues of access to food, shelter, and medical care in both historic and current capitalist countries.
