You ever heard the Yogi Berra quote “nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded”?

Maybe a better way to ask is—why do you think people would rather vote for a “terrible human being” than vote for him? Like can we be more specific about why people are voting the way they are? Maybe explain what makes his attempts to convince people ineffective in your mind?

Or maybe not.

Did you vote labour?
12-09-2019 , 06:04 PM
It's on Thursday, but yes I will. It shouldn't matter at all, mind, because if our constituency isn't a safe labour seat, we're in a world of pain.

This election has been a real shower of ****. It's the most stark example of choosing the least bad option in my (electoral) lifetime, Corbyn is a shambles, and only the leader of the labour party by disastrous accident, but Boris Johnson is venal, lazy, narcissistic and utterly without principle beyond who he can grope next; there's a real danger that the political logic leads him to some really nasty policies in the future.

The more obvious and correct observation is Trump is a racist
12-09-2019 , 07:57 PM
I'm sort of with Mets on this, in that Trump may be too stupid/sheltered to realize how these comments play.

On the other hand, racism seems largely a function of stupidity, so the above apology doesn't really insulate Trump from being antisemitic.

One doesn't have to hate Jews to be antisemitic, and it seems very clear that Trump doesn't understand this.

Accurate

trump is a racist.

i also thinks he absolutely believes every stereotype about jewish people. whether you want to say that's antisemitic or not, that's up to you.

It's also sad that this is the absolute BEST interpretation of his actions, and you still choose to support him.

I’m really glad we have people like Mets and IANAW to provide nuance for comments like the ones Trump makes. After ArcticKnight and EB gave us that for Rudolph I felt it had been a while since someone had rushed to defend racism itt.
12-09-2019 , 11:01 PM
I must have missed the part where I defended racism but you do you.

i dont support these statements but his policy isnt antisemetic so what

lyndon johnson was a racist and passed more civil rights laws than anybody ever
12-10-2019 , 12:12 AM
so it looks like the dems are gonna charge trump with

obstruction of congress (rather than take any of the subpoenas to court)
and abuse of power

not bribery
12-10-2019 , 12:14 AM
but the good news is it looks like trump and nancy agreed in principal on the terms to the new nafta

He loves to paraphrase and reframe positions we take and then try to get us to defend the positions he invented for us.

But, if you want some Birdman repellent, just ask him to quote (the entire quote) of what you said and debate that.

When you do that, Birdman goes away. He can only take issue with the position he creates for you. He wont debate your own words.

Birdman, you do realize I am still waiting for you to quote me on the racism Rudolph issue.... I invited you twice, (well now three times) but you are probably a busy guy.

The quote button is really an easy tool you know. Look at all the paraphrasing time it would save you..

Oh, BTW.. Trump is a racist... (in case you ever need to quote me on that).

lol Birdman repellant. That’s funny
12-10-2019 , 12:44 PM
No obstruction of Justice charge
12-10-2019 , 12:44 PM
Birdman, what about being a materialist makes you anti-racism?
12-10-2019 , 12:46 PM
Maybe Dems figure they can hold Reps to their votes against obstruction of Congress in the future,

because for some reason Dems still don't get that Reps don't care about ideological consistency
