This all took place in less than 1 hour on a Friday night. The forum came back this afternoon, but many of the regulars there are trying to start their own forum now.

I think Trump's reaction to it had an effect on perceptions. Had Trump condemned it and put blame on MBS then it would still have been a big story, but with Trump defending the Saudis it became an issue that the (fake)left could jump all over. So I think Filthy is largely correct in his claim that it's because he was killed by a Trump ally that his 'worth was upped'. But I was also outside the US when this story broke and not following the news closely at the time, so my own perceptions might be off.

But people on all sides of the political spectrum have all sorts of ways of hand-waving away various evils. Saudi Arabia has been a monarchy/dictatorship funding radicals/ISIS--so I would think their evilness should be a given, but it is hard to know what other people know or think they know.

And of course, journalists are murdered all over the world and most of the time it never makes mainstream US news.

You will find most liberals suddenly became “aware” of the evils of US foreign policy only after Trump got elected, and I fully expect them to retreat back to their feigned ignorance once the next hip Democrat takes office and makes things like caging children and drone striking Muslims “cool” again.

Doing all touristy stuff in San Fransisco today and the right wing deplorshphere would have you believe that it is a homeless, poop-on-the-streets infested ****-hole, but that hasn't been my impression at all. Definitely plenty of homeless but I haven't seen any poop anywhere.
