Damn, what happened to the days where a Dad could just buy a prestigious University a building if he wanted his kids to get admitted there?

It's nuts. Faking sports pictures?

beady eyed, hook nosed spongebob to mock mets' refusal to call netanyahu a "fascist"

nagl imo

netanyahu is an ethno-nationalist, not good

but I think to be a "fascist", technically, he has to take the ideology into a mandate for international conquest

I am 34, and my wife and I are looking for a new synagogue.

Any one that categorically refuses to criticize the Israeli government will be a non-starter for us.

That’s his lip, not his nose. His nose is anything but hooked. Pump the breaks, yo.

Also, not surprising but that was a miserable interpretation of what happened by IANAW. There are so many things in between “he’s further right than I’d like” and “he’s a fascist”. Why are you acting like those were Mets only two choices?
03-13-2019 , 12:20 PM
One of my gutter-punk friends used to get ridiculously wasted and then his mind would shut down to the point to where everything became "****ing fascists". It was his catch phrase and he saw fascists everywhere. Trying to kick him out of a bar that he wasn't already banned from: ****ing fascists.
I always liked this take of fascism which is that the fascists are the people trying to control you and ruin your good time. I agree that ianaww's definition is a little restrictive. Talking on a cell phone in a car in a parking lot and getting a $400 ticket needs to be covered under any definition of fascism imo.

Neither you nor IANAW have any idea what fascism is. Any definition that doesn’t say anything about class is incomplete and also probably serving the ruling class

I just wrote a decent post on fascism but then I deleted it.

There can be a class component but the authoritarian element is more important and is the central defining feature. Everything else is whatever your own ideological bent is. There is no actual definition.
03-13-2019 , 03:35 PM
The word Fascism has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies ‘something not desirable’. Orwell, Politics & The English Language, 1946

Except for the relatively small number of Fascist sympathizers, almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’. That is about as near to a definition as this much-abused word has come. Orwell, What is Fascism?, 1944

This is gibberish. What does “authoritarian” even mean?

If they make you wear uncomfortable shoes, then they are plantar fascists.

Let's hear your definition of fascism first.

Based on that definition, would you consider Trump to be an authoritarian?

I could either 1) just say yes to end discussion.

2) ask you to provide a specific example of how Trump is asking people to obey government at the expense of personal freedom.

I personally have not found my freedom to be more impinged under Trump. Apparently they are going to stop renewing passports if you have unpaid taxes though.

*Jeff Sessions didn't go after all the dispensaries after all...people don't seem to be getting rounded up for political speech.

Hey guys, just so we are clear, LB is not an asylum seeker. We can all stop worrying about it now, since his freedom has not been impinged, its obviously not happening to anyone else.

I think they're back to catch and release now, Master.

Orthodox conservative or reform?

From the latest j street poll of Jews in America
Q.25 Compared to 5-10 years ago, do you feel more positive, more negative, or about the same toward Israel?
Total
More positive.......................................... ....................................26
More negative.......................................... ...................................19
About the same .................................................. .........................55
(Don’t know/refused).......................................... .........................0
Q.26 Has Israeli government policy toward the Palestinians made you feel more positive or more negative about Israel, or has it made no difference on how you feel about Israel?
Total
More positive.......................................... ....................................17
More negative.......................................... ...................................29
No difference .................................................. ............................54
(Don’t know/refused).......................................... .........................0

So yes it's not as overwhelming as the past but i still say a conservative synogauge will lose more members than they would gain

Reform synogauges aren't generally that pro Israel so you can find one you like
